Seldom this decade have Texas Tech and Oklahoma played with less at stake than today. Two six-win teams, neither ranked, hoping to salvage a decent bowl game.
Not the week-before-Thanksgiving scenario either side had in mind going into the season.
Certainly, the anticipation for today’s Tech-Oklahoma game won’t match that of the last two when first Oklahoma, [...]

As injuries mounted, Tech, OU fell short of goals this season

It’s senior day at Tech, and lately the Red Raiders have made it count

Texas Tech tackle Marlon Winn started the week reminding teammates the added significance of today’s regular-season home finale against Oklahoma. It’ll be the last trip down the tunnel at Jones AT&T Stadium for 19 Red Raiders seniors.
“He said it (Sunday) night: ‘How would you want to be sent out when you’re a senior?’’’ Tech [...]

Oklahoma defense making strong case as one of best in Stoops era

Bob Stoops, who has had several stout defenses in his 11 seasons as Oklahoma’s head coach, said he never compares one year’s unit to another.
If he had to rank them, though, this year’s Sooner defense would certainly be a candidate for the top spot.
“It is definitely one of the best ones we’ve had,” Stoops said [...]

Tech notes: Franks, Crawford out for OU game

It appears Texas Tech flanker Jacoby Franks, who worked with the scout team all week, will be benched for Saturday’s home finale against Oklahoma. Franks wasn’t listed on the dress roster Tech released Thursday.
Wide receivers coach Dennis Simmons said Tuesday that Franks was in the doghouse for what he termed “a variety of reasons.’’ The [...]

Tech notes: Wall, Williams return

Texas Tech cornerback Jamar Wall and linebacker Marlon Williams, both of whom missed Tuesday’s practice, returned to Wednesday’s workout. Both got hurt late in Saturday’s 24-17 loss at Oklahoma State, Wall in a violent collision with Cowboys quarterback Zac Robinson.
Williams was wearing a protective boot Tuesday.
Starting middle linebacker Brian Duncan has taken some snaps at [...]

OU quarterback Jones making most of opportunity

Landry Jones figured he’d have at least another year to stand on the sideline, where he could watch and learn from one of the most decorated quarterbacks in Oklahoma history.
That was the plan anyway, but it was ruined sooner than anyone could have expected.
Sam Bradford, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, suffered a shoulder injury during [...]

OU battles losing trend

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops has mostly had his way against his old offensive coordinator, Texas Tech coach Mike Leach.
In their nine head-to-head meetings this decade, Stoops’ teams are 7-2. But Oklahoma is winless on its last two trips to Lubbock, meaning none of the current Sooners players has tasted victory in Jones AT&T Stadium.
“We haven’t [...]

Texas-TCU in BCS title game could still happen

adam-zuvanich

It probably won’t happen, but it sure would be sweet if it did.
Texas vs. TCU at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 7, old Southwest Conference foes playing not only for in-state bragging rights but for the national championship.
It’s a scenario that seemed impossible when the season began, and as I mentioned, it’s still highly unlikely. [...]
