BOULDER, Colo. — Kelsey Griffin and Nebraska are just focusing on the game at hand and not worried about being undefeated.

Griffin scored 24 points, including the 1,700th of her career, to help No. 6 Nebraska remain unbeaten with an 80-64 victory over Colorado on Saturday.

“We aren’t thinking about that right now,” Griffin said. “We put all our focus on Colorado and after the game was over we put all our attention on Oklahoma State because we can’t afford looking any farther than Oklahoma State.”

Dominique Kelley matched her season high with 18 points for Nebraska (19-0, 6-0 Big 12), which is off to the best start of any Big 12 team since the conference’s inception in 1996-97.

Cory Montgomery and Yvonne Turner added 11 each for the Cornhuskers, who won in Boulder for the sixth time in 31 games and remain the only undefeated team besides top-ranked Connecticut. The Huskies blew out Pittsburgh 98-56.

Bianca Smith and Chucky Jeffrey led Colorado (12-8, 2-5) with 14 points apiece. Jeffrey had 11 rebounds for her first career double-double and the Buffaloes suffered their season-high third straight loss.

Nicole Neals made a 3-pointer and Kelley contributed a three-point play to make it 44-33 after Colorado had trimmed the lead to 38-33 on Jeffrey’s layup early in the second half.

“I didn’t even notice, said Griffin about the tightening of the game. “We just try to play every possession.”
Griffin made two layups to increase Nebraska’s advantage to 13, but with Griffin getting a two-minute rest, the Buffaloes got to within 50-44 on Meagan Malcolm- Peck’s 3-pointer with 12 minutes left.

Griffin hit a layup, blocked a shot and came up with a steal upon her return and her basket with 9:03 to go put the Cornhuskers ahead 58-46. Montgomery had layups off an inbound pass and a steal and Turner followed with a 3-pointer to pad Nebraska’s lead to 70-52 with 4:31 remaining.

“I think we have to be tougher in those stretches,” Smith said. “Sometimes, we lose our focus and that’s when teams push a six-point to 12 on us.”

The Buffaloes never got closer than 14 the rest of the way.

Griffin was limited to eight points in the first half, but Kelley filled the void with nine as Nebraska built a 37-29 lead. Two free throws by Griffin and Neals’ 3-pointer gave the Cornhuskers their biggest lead of the half, 27-13, but Smith got the lead under double digits with a pair of 3-pointers in the last minute.

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sherron Collins had 28 points and hit his fifth 3-pointer with just over a minute left, helping No. 3 Kansas outlast No. 25 Baylor 81-75 Wednesday night.

Kansas (17-1, 3-0) used its depth to get Baylor’s big front line in foul trouble and hit just enough shots down the stretch to eke out its 53rd straight win at Allen Fieldhouse. Collins got the Jayhawks started with two nifty assists and closed it out with a 3-pointer from the wing, combining with Marcus Morris to score 12 of Kansas’ final 14 points.

Morris finished with 22 points.

Baylor (14-3, 2-2) gave Kansas its toughest test of the season at home, riding LaceDarius Dunn’s 27 points to become the first team in 92 games to more over 50 percent (52) against the Jayhawks. The Bears just couldn’t come up with the stops down the stretch, extending their Big 12 road losing streak to eight games.

• Oklahoma State 90, Colorado 78

STILLWATER, Okla. – James Anderson scored 26 points, Marshall Moses had 20 points and 18 rebounds and Oklahoma State snapped a two-game losing streak by beating Colorado 90-78 on Wednesday night.

Anderson, the Big 12 Conference’s leading scorer, fueled a 10-2 run early in the second half that gave Oklahoma State (14-4, 2-2) a 15-point lead and went 11-for-13 from the free-throw line. Anderson has scored in double figures in 32 straight games, matching the third-longest streak in school history.

Alec Burks led Colorado with a career-high 24 points. Colorado (10-8, 1-3) has lost 31 straight conference road games since Feb. 5, 2006, when the Buffaloes won at Oklahoma State, and 23 in a row on the road against NCAA Division I foes, dating to December 2007.

Moses matched his career rebounding high as Oklahoma State outrebounded the Buffaloes 38-23 to move to 10-0 this season at Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Cowboys also shot a season-high 55.4 percent from the field.

Of Oklahoma State’s 14 wins this season, 12 have come by double digits.

Oklahoma State, coming off road losses to Oklahoma and Baylor, jumped to an 11-0 lead, as the Buffaloes opened the game with five turnovers and five missed shots. Colorado cut the margin to 27-24 at the 4:46 mark but Oklahoma State led 37-30 at halftime.

With the Cowboys up 40-33, Obi Muonelo started a 10-2 run with a 3-pointer and Anderson finished it with another, making it 50-35 with 16:33 left.

Colorado cut it to 55-43 on a 3-pointer by Levi Knutson with 13:15 left, leading to a quick timeout by Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford, who came charging onto the court. The Cowboys responded with six straight points and Colorado came no closer than nine the rest of the way.

Muonelo hit four 3-pointers in the second half to help keep Oklahoma State comfortably ahead and finished with 18 points. Keiton Page added 14 points for the Cowboys.

Dwight Thorne scored 15 points for Colorado and Cory Higgins, the Buffaloes’ leading scorer, scored 13 points, six below his average. Burks remained the only true freshman in Division I to score in double figures in every game this season.

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Daniel Thomas ran for 145 yards and a touchdown, and Emmanuel Lamur had two interceptions to lead Big 12 North-leading Kansas State.

Humbled by an early loss to Louisiana-Lafayette and a 66-14 beatdown by Texas Tech, Kansas State is alone atop the Big 12 North after impressive wins over Texas A&M and Colorado. The Wildcats forced four turnovers and held Colorado to 244 total yards for their first 3-1 start in the Big 12 since 2000, during coach Bill Snyder’s first tenure.

Colorado looked nothing like the team that traded big plays with Kansas last week, scoring on its first drive and doing little else to lose its 10th-straight road game. The Buffaloes are 2-17 away from Boulder in coach Dan Hawkins’ three-plus seasons.

BOULDER, Colo. – Tyler Hansen wanted to prove that he should have been Colorado’s starting quarterback all along. He sure showed he deserves to be the Buffaloes’ main man from here on out.

Hansen, who replaced Cody Hawkins – the coach’s son – in the starting lineup, ran for a touchdown and threw a TD pass to lead Colorado to an upset of No. 17 Kansas.

Providing a spark both through the air and on the ground, Hansen threw for 175 yards and ran for 34 yards. Colorado (2-4, 1-1 Big 12) handed Todd Reesing and the Jayhawks (5-1, 1-1) their first loss.

Hansen led the Buffs to the winning score after Reesing had rallied the Jayhawks from a three-touchdown deficit to give Kansas a 30-27 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Hansen drove the Buffaloes 76 yards in 10 plays, the payoff coming when Rodney Stewart scored from 12 yards out, dragging a defender the final five yards into the end zone with 81/2 minutes remaining.
