-Track teams win 10 titles at pair of invites
The Lady Raiders and No. 5 Red Raiders track squads won 10 titles and set two new school records at the Sooner Invitational and Brutus Hamilton Invitational over the weekend.
Sophomore Terra Evans won the 100 meters in a school record of 11.28 seconds and followed it up with the third-fastest time in Tech history in the 200 meters with a wind-aided 23.18. Both times put her into the top 10 in the NCAA. Her 100 meter time was a meet record.
Senior Tori Smith broke the 100-meter hurdle school record she set last season. Her time of 13.33 is one of the top 20 in the NCAA this season and set a new meet record.
The women’s 400-meter relay of Erica Alexander, Terra Evans, Candace Jackson and Taylor Evans ran a meet record time of 44.84.
The men’s 400 meter followed suit as Bryce Brown, Rashad Hawk, Jansen Hyde and Henderson won in 40.24.
Winrose Karunde won her first 3000M steeplechase of the season Friday night at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. She ran a 10:23.62 and the time moves her into the 15 times in the NCAA.
Gilbert Limo ran one of the top five times in the NCAA with an 8:42.99. He finished second in the race with his personal-best time.
The women’s 1600-meter relay of Jackson, Taylor Evans, Kelsey Lloyd and Clarke finished second with a time of 3:39.24.
The men’s 1600-meter relay of Bryce Brown, LaToy Williams, Zach Plinario and Jamele Mason ran a season-best time of 3:06.43 to place second behind South Plains.
-Ward increases lead at Big 12 championships
Texas Tech posted the lowest team score of the third round with a 4-under 284 and moved within four shots of the lead heading into Sunday’s final round at the Big 12 Conference Championships at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity. Chris Ward carded his third-straight round of under-par golf with a 1-under 71 and takes a two-stroke lead into the final round.
The Red Raiders climbed a spot in the third round, leapfrogging tournament host and No. 5 Texas A&M, which shot a 4-over 292. Tech trails No. 7 Texas by two strokes and tournament leader No. 3 Oklahoma State by four. The four teams at the top are the only under-par teams remaining in the field and are followed by Kansas State (+5), No. 50 Baylor (+12), Colorado (+24), Nebraska (+25), Oklahoma (+33), Iowa State (+41), Missouri (+43) and Kansas (+44).
Final round play gets underway Sunday morning. Texas Tech will tee off with Oklahoma State and Texas at 8:50 a.m.. Live scoring will be available throughout the event at www.golfstat.com.
-Soccer scrimmage benefits Down Syndrome Guild
The white squad unloaded four first-half goals, while withstanding a second-half rally by the red team to win
Texas Tech’s Red-White match, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
The match benefited the Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas.
The match concludes the spring for the Red Raiders as they finished the exhibition schedule 4-0-1 overall. Tech opens the 2010 regular season at home against TCU on Aug. 20.
-Women’s golf in seventh at Big 12 meet
The Texas Tech women’s golf team fell to seventh place during the second day of competition at the Big 12 conference championships in Norman, Okla.
The Lady Raiders began the day in second place. Roslyn Kim remains in the top 10 of the individual standings, shooting a 5-over-par 77 to sit in eighth place overall heading into the final day of competition. Freshman Gabby Dominguez shot a team-best 76 to improve to 18th place.
Oklahoma State is the current overall leader. Tech will begin teeing off in today’s final round at 8 a.m.

Liberty University!! Knight better be on his best behavior; Jerry Farwell might reach down and give him a “thumper” if he gets too carried away. Looks like Tech would really like to be in the Southland Conference! LMAO

Have I seen this before??? Play sisters of the shaw and Menonite university to make the schedule look good before big 12. I thought we were supposed to play hard schedule for the big 12. Silly me, must be the beer.

Honestly, this schedule is a joke. Played the same schedule last year and got ranked. Don’t spend a cent with Tech–You’ll be able to see the games for a dollar. Spring Cleaning To Do: Knight, Knight, Curry, Curry, Hance, Myers, Bailey, Scovell, White, Sowell. Anybody I missed?

Not a bad schedule when you consider it is hard to get fans in the seats anymore. That will not improve until we recruit better. If good players can be recruited to Northern Iowa it can happen in Lubbock.

That schedule is horrible. I know that playing well in the Big 12 can get them into the NCAA tournament, but this is a joke.
Not impressed or happy with that.
SMU, Houston, Rice, Tulsa, New Mexico St., Utah, BYU, LSU, Arkansas, Gonzaga, Iowa, Minnesota, and a hundred other schools that would be worth scheduling. I support the team and want Pat to do well, but this is a joke.

Keep the curry’s, at least they can get top 100 recruits unlike knight.

Knight wants to pad his resume. Solution: Don’t go to the games.
