Tech defeats Jacksonville to advance to NIT quarterfinals
D’walyn Roberts thought about holding onto the rebound and letting Jacksonville commit a desperate foul. Then he changed his mind.
Roberts fired the ball downcourt to David Tairu, who slammed it through the net in the game’s final seconds to seal a 69-64 victory in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament. With the win Texas Tech advances to play Ole Miss next week.
Brad Reese finished with 19 points, one shy of his career-high, and 10 rebounds to lead Tech. John Roberson added 14 points.
Ben Smith had 17 points to lead the Dolphins.
Tech is now 19-15. The time and date of the next game have not been announced.

Funny how one week ago positive comments on this site wrt Tech basketball were on the endangered species list. Now most everyone is on the band wagon after only two good wins. I stick to my guns and say we give PK another two years before considering his future in raiderland.

MyOPINON about Pat Knight has not changed, Iam not a hyprocrite. I like Pa t, but do not think he is a good head coach . Iam proud these players are doing well being a lifelong fan.

It doesn’t make you a hypocrite to change your opinion about a coach, McGruber.
Pat has accomplished a not-small-at all task in taking a team that lost 7 games in a row to end a season and still getting them to play like this in the postseason. Yes, a lot of it has to do with the character of his players, but it has just as much to do with him being a great leaders that the players enjoy playing for and want to win for. He coached a heck of a game today. The 5 players (Roberson, Tairu, Singletary, Reese, Roberts) that played the last 10 minutes or so is the team for next year..and they looked pretty darn good out there.
If he can get recruiting picked up, the program will explode in the next 2-3 years. There is plenty to be excited about.

Ponder this. Would you rather be Tech at 2-0 in the NIT? Or UT at 0-1 in the NCAA? Think hard about this before you answer. It is fun to be still playing…but we are truly in the lower rung of teams. Go Tech — like Baylor last year, a good run in the NIT could be a confidince builder for next year.
…and I still think Bubba Jennings should be the head coach. If Gerald Myers owes anybody a favor, it is him.

There is a lot of local talent that would be a start.

Estacado for one, and some other local high schools, Kevin wagner will be coming, he is a joy to watch. Haley Fowler is just a sophmore from Smyer , she is sensational. Nazareth, idalou, New Deal, and the Lubbbock High schools, Plainview, etc. Willard from Estacado is a senior, I believe.

Anyone who was at the game knows that Jacksonville really is a good team.
The Raiders played a strong second half, and our season marches on!!!
Great crowd! Not many students, but we were into it, and we were loud.
Scary game, but LOTS of fun!
I’d love to see us keep it going…

Lets leave the football commentary out this. This isn’t about FOOTBALL, its basketball. I think some of you nutsuckers out there would give it up to LEACH if he asked you for it. Leach is lunchmeat, and he is gone. Move on folks…there are better things to talk about …….and LEACH isn’t one of them.

Red Devil, I agree but isnt that up to the AJ. ? To call other posters names is not right, either.

Hey, great game guys! Who CARES what the coaches are doing as long as the team wins(maybe Bubba’s doing some more coaching or Pat’s running around the practices in nothing but a thong)? The point is…the team’s now winning, and THAT’S ALL THE HELL THAT MATTERS! I’ve been critical of Pat, sure, but I’ll eat crow and pretend it’s turkey as long as we win. Getting to the third round of the NIT is pretty good for any team that hasn’t sniffed the post season in two years, and might give these kids something to work with next year. And, BTW…big, bad UT’s sitting at home while poor little ‘ole Tech is still playing basketball. POOR TEXAS!!! (and WHAT THE HELL happened to KU?)

Seems like this team is playing well now with everyone healthy. Keep it rolling, Raiders. Beat miss.
Wreck ‘em Tech

Tech may pick up a local player or two every so often, but that’s it – period & end of story. Local talent will not make the difference for Tech’s program. No way – no how.
Oh, wait. I guess that is how KU and others built such strong programs – recruiting all that local talent and such. Tech must tap solid talent from the Texas metroplexs and pick off a few from surrounding states and an occasional JUCO player.

All of the Team Leachers’ whipping boy, Gerald Myers, ALWAYS sneaked into New Mexico, every year, and got the New Mexico player of the year, for years………..then the idiot & devious crook, Dave Bliss snuck into New Mexico, and the pipeline stopped. It would be great for Pat to look to the Fort Worth-Dallas area, as well as trying to snare the New Mexico player of the year.
Recruiting is a long-term process, and Gerald always had the Tech cagers either winning the SWC Tournament, or playing pretty well. Bubba Jennings is an example of the New Mexico players…..so, Pat, even use your Paw, and try to leverage players to the Tech program.
By the way, Congratulations to all the Tech team, on an inspired (near end of half and all the second half) victory. Jacksonville was no slouch. Haven’t followed Ole Miss or ACC much, but hope some of you can make it to Oxford, Miss. to show your support. I’m in Ft.Worth with pneumonia, so I’ll leave it to you Tech fans to support the team.
Get ‘em Raiders!
