Leach to give testimony Friday
Former Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach is scheduled to appear Friday in Lubbock to testify under oath about his ongoing legal battle with the university.
Leach, who moved to Key West, Fla., after being fired by Tech in late December, has been asked to give a videotaped deposition in front of both legal teams at 9 a.m. in the office of his Attorney, Ted Liggett.
Several other key players in the Leach saga — including Tech Chancellor Kent Hance — are also scheduled to give formal testimony in Lubbock this week as a part of the pretrial discovery process, Liggett said.
“That’s standard procedure within the lawsuit,” he said. “Everyone’s agreed. Nobody is being forced to do anything they don’t want to do.”
Tech fired Leach for allegedly mistreating a player, Adam James, after he complained of a concussion in December. In a statement released soon after his firing, Tech also cited insubordination as a cause.
The former coach denies any wrongdoing and is suing the university for breach of contract and defamation.
Lubbock District Judge William C. Sowder ordered the two sides to attempt an out-of-court settlement through mediation. But when the Feb. 5 deadline came, the mediator filed a request to recess the discussions until an unspecified later date.
A gag order by the court has kept both sides tight-lipped where the mediation process stands.
Leach’s upcoming testimony, as a part of the discovery process, can be used as evidence if the lawsuit goes to trial, according to court documents.
Liggett said the two legal camps have already completed similar testimony from Charlotte Bingham, a Tech attorney who conducted an initial investigation into complaints that Leach had mistreated James.
Also scheduled this week are depositions from James and his father, ESPN college football analyst Craig James, Liggett said.
In a related motion filed late last week, Leach’s attorneys subpoenaed the Frenship Independent School District for records pertaining to Leach’s replacement, Tommy Tuberville, and his family.
They’re asking the district to turn over documents involving the Tuberville family, particularly those pertaining to possible enrollment in district schools.
Tech hired Tuberville in early January about two weeks after firing Leach.
Dicky Grigg, an attorney with Spivey & Grigg law firm in Austin and a member of Tech’s legal team, said he was unsure about why Leach is seeking the records.
“I’m just sort of puzzled about it,” he said. “It’s an act of desperation to bring in coach Tuberville’s children.”
Grigg wasn’t sure when Tech began speaking with Tuberville about filling Leach’s position, but he said he knew it was after the termination.
Liggett declined to comment about the subpoena.
Frenship ISD has filed a motion to deny Leach the documents, citing federal student confidentiality laws. Sowder, in turn, has scheduled a hearing on the subpoena for March 26.
David Backus, an attorney with the Underwood law firm who is representing the district, said it is reluctant to release any record without the judge’s approval.
Backus, however, was unsure whether such records exist.
“I haven’t seen any yet,” he said. “We’re a third party in this deal. We don’t a have a dog in the fight. What they’ve asked for is highly confidential under federal law. We want to be very careful.”
Timeline of Leach legal battle
Dec. 28: Tech suspends Mike Leach for alleged player mistreatment.
Dec. 29: Leach attorney Ted Liggett files for a restraining order to keep Leach on sideline during bowl game.
Dec. 30: Moments before a court hearing on Leach’s original restraining order, Tech fires him.
Jan. 8: Liggett amends December’s restraining order request to make it a full-blown lawsuit accusing Tech of breach of contract and defamation of character, among other claims.
Jan. 12: Leach’s legal team files another set of amendments accusing Tech of violating Leach’s whistleblowing rights to call foul against his employer.
Jan. 20: District Judge Bill Sowder denies Leach’s request for a speedy discovery. Sowder also delays judgment on Tech’s claim of sovereign immunity.
Jan. 21: Sowder orders mediation and sets a Feb. 5 deadline.
Feb. 5: Mediator files motion with Sowder to recess mediation until a later date.
Feb. 24: Tech files motion requesting deposition with Leach.
March 5: Both sides conduct deposition with a Tech lawyer who conducted an initial investigation of Leach’s treatment of James. Leach’s camp subpoenas Frenship ISD for records of Tommy Tuberville, Leach’s successor.
March 8: The school district asks Sowder to deny subpoena. Sowder schedules a March 26 hearing on the request.

Tubby approached Frenship Schools about transfering his kids before Leach was even fired becuase that was the plan adopted by Hance, Myers, and the regents. – & with the blessing of the James family naturally.
Leach had to go if the James kid was going to get the playing time his daddy wanted for him. Otherwise he was going to start crying about a concussion.

I wish Leach would/could sue Hance and Myers personally. They must go. The scuttle is Myers will retire soon so he won’t be forced to fire PK. I hope Myers leaves tomorrow.

Roid, you took the words out of my mouth! I hope Leach wipes the floor with all these fools.
BTW, you know Myers does NOT want to be the guy to fire Bobby’s boy–can you imagine RMK’s tirade if he did?(Maybe he’d fhrow a chair at Gerald!) GM wants to hang it up before that, as he can see the handwriting on the wall. Two headlines I’m looking forward to seeing soon:
1. ” GMyers retires from Tech AD job.” AND 2. “Texas Tech FIRES basketball coach Pat Knight.”
I’m looking forward to seeing Kent Hance resigns in disgrace for poor stewardship of Texas Tech University and for cronyism; Gerald Myers resigns (fired) for incompetence–for hiring two terrible basketball coaches and firing a winning football coach who brought national recognition to the university; and Craig James sued for millions for defamation.
The trouble is that when this case settles we, the tax-paying citizens of Texas, will never know the details nor the amount because it will all be part of a confidentiality agreement. While there will be reporting under state law of some of the amounts, they lawyers will find all kinds of ways to circumvent them. In any case, I hope that Mike Leach beats the hell out of Hance, Myers, and Adams because they caused a great mess–and dishonored this university in the process with their unethical behavior. Down with the Good Ole’ Boys …Myers from Borger and Hance from Dimmit (how close to Diim WIT!)

I do know this: Tubby’s kids officially enrolled 1 or 2 weeks after he was hired at Frenship. But I don’t know how Leach can prove that they were looking at Frenship prior to his hiring. Good Angle by Leach but I’m not sure if he can prove anything.

Kent Hance is quite possibly the most moronic Chancellor in the country………Why doesnt he donate his $450K salary to Charity because he is the textbook definition of egotistical, inept, incompetent steward for this University. Even if he hated Leach’s guts he had a fiduciary duty to represent the alumni wishes and protect university employees instead of planning their dismissal.
Hance you are over and you know it……..Just a matter of time! Just be glad you do not have to go find a real job like the students that are graduating from your school.

I wonder if this is why spring football practice was moved to the 20th of March? They said it was to let players recover from injuries but that never had a truthful ring to me. It seems the Leach legal team is being somewhat nice in all of this because they could have just included Tommy Tuberville in the discovery process. Word on the street is that someone in the Auburn athletic department said first contacts to Tuberville were made in late 2008 and continued during 2009.

Actually, Im a huge Mike Leach fan. His brand of football brought national recognition to TTU, to Lubbock, and in all actuality, I doubt Tubberville would have ever considered coming to McDougalville, had it not been for the strides the program made under Leach. That being said, I stand to gain nothing from Leach winning this lawsuit. If it meant parading Gerald and Kent up and down university avenue to be spat upon and have dung and urine thrown on them, then I would be for a Leach victory. As it stands though, TTU having to pay millions isnt going to bring Leach or his atmosphere back to the town without a zoo. Its just going to bring additional negative publicity to a place devoid of any positive perception outside of Lubbock County. So, I wish coach well, but I hope he loses. I hope Myers, Hance, and girly boy Bailey get fired and publicly humiliated. I hope the bought-out media in Lubbock, get seen as the bought-out media that they and we all know they are. And I hope that Lubbock someday has an honest city government and school board (I actually spit doritos and coke out on the floor after typing that last one). I’ll only get one of my wishes, that being, Leach will lose this lawsuit. I hope Tubberville does well, he better do well. But, to make Gerald and Kent and their god, Craig James look good, lets not expect anything for, lets say, 10 years.

Let me restate this again, recently a mom and her daughter were involved in a murder suicide, may there souls rest in peace, the young girl was a student at Frenship, her records were released to the media , including when she enrolled. Frenship is now withholding records and using Federal laws, why? If you dont have something to hide then you present the facts. this makes in my opinion, they are hiding something ,they released records recently but cant release the records of Tubervilles kids? If they werent hiding anything they would release those records, wouldnt they? Whats the big deal? Allof this and everything that has happened up to this point look bad for Tech. If Tuberville was looking into Frenship schools earlier there could be records of it or they could subpoenae the person that he or she talked to. Guess well find out, but witholding records doesnt hold water unless there is something to hide in my opinion. Whoever that Tuberville did or did not talk to seems to me would remember him. Frankly, Ive always wondered why Tuberville would come here in the first place, a coach with his resume and get paid less than almost all the other coaches in the big 12, and 55 years, why come here when you are used to trees and lakes. Why come to a mess like this and now you are involved or the lawyers wouldnt be wanting records, lawyers are not dumb, there may be something to all that, requesting school records, that is not the norm unless there was some info that the lawyers were aware of, all sounds very fishy to me..

I also do not remember his name being considered for any of the multiple coaching vacancies that existed before Coach Leach got fired. So that tells me one of two things…1. Tuberville wanted to take a season off, so he did. He was contacted for jobs elsewhere, but he didn’t even think about them because he wanted to take a year off.
When this team wins the Big 12 South this coming season, what will you idiots be thinking about? Celebrating the school’s first ever division title and BCS bowl berth? There is an old story about when the Cowboys played the Redskins in the NFC Championship. The Redskins kicked a winning goal at the last second to win the game. When Joe Gibbs was interviewed the reporter asked him knowing that Tom Landry and Gibbs were both devout Christians, whether it was his prayer verses Landry’s prayer if the kick would go through the goalposts. Gibbs answered that his, and he suspected Tom Landry’s, prayers were not that the field goal would be good or bad, but that they could handle whatever was the outcome. It is not how we influence God, it is how we handle what is going on in the life we are living and whether we are living a life pleasing to Him. Whether this whole Leach situation proves out to be that Hance and Co. were 100% right, a 100% wrong or some percentage in the middle, it will all be about how WE handle it. What say we argue facts, desires and even emotions about the subject at hand but leave our religions out of it.

Rob R. Get with it kid. If Tubs can win the Big 12 this season it has nothing to do with him. This season was set for Leach to take the Big 12 with UT and OU being somewhat down compared to recent years. He set it up with his system and recruits. This was to be TTUs year to win a Conference Champ game, which adds to the recruiting. Under Leach Tech has been in an upward spiral from the start. He has improved EVERYTHING about Tech, gave it an identity which it never had, and created excitement. This whole thing Tech corruption created by a guy who hired Knight, defending him when he slapped a kid ON TV, and then fired Leach for mistreating a kid. Whatever. He fired him cause he couldn’t stand being trumped by a smarter more successful man. Leach didn’t conform to the good ol boy system and they couldn’t handle it. Any free thinking person can see this, they thought they could get away with some back room dealings but didn’t have the smarts to pull it off.
For everyone else bashing “Leachers” or even better the ones who can’t spell his name and put “Leechers”, grow up. Your throwing mud on people who care about the university and the man that put our football program where it is now. Vastly better than it was 10 years ago. Get your facts straight, he improved the record, grad rates, identity, national recognition, everything. And he was done wrong. We’re not looking into the past we’re looking at the future that was hijacked from us by some self serving brown teeth, flatlander, rednecks, who don’t deserve the job the occupy. NO other sports program under Myers has improved- except FB- the one he wasn’t allowed to touch because of his immaturity and inability to get along with a successful coach.

We have gotten rid of Leach, now lets deal with the real problems at TTU.
We can all agree that the relationship between Mike Leach and the admin was bad before any of the James Gang crap.
I suppose it could all be Mike Leach’s fault, but I doubt it. Leach’s job was to coach football not shine up the admin.
The admin’s job was to make everything else work and keep everybody happy, they failed at that.
Ok say things were beyond repair, The admin’s job was to manage the process, they failed at that!
Next the admin needed to have a professional coaching search, that didn’t happen either, we hired the first guy that knocked on the door.
Is Tommy a decent coach and will he do ok, probably, but how can anyone have any confidence in the decisions made by this incestous bunch.
It is time to clean house, if Tommy allows Adam James to remain on the team then he needs to go as well.

Truth, how can you get to truth when the people that know the truth are not likely to express it. Remember a prior US Attorney General (present faculty member) saying before members of Congress—I’m sorry, I don’t remember? So testimony isn’t likely to get to the truth but other forms of evidence might. Other blogs are reporting that evidence coming out of Alabama is compelling but my guess is that it won’t be enough to support the numerous causes of action Mr. Leach has filed. I think we will find that this boils down to a “read the contract” issue and decide what it says. The ten day ‘fix it” element in Leach’s contract is compelling and will probably be what wins some of what he is asking for. I don’t believe he will win on the punitive damage issues but the calculations dealing with the contract mean he should get 2.4 million.
Team Leach—the truth won’t be coming so move on to settlement. For the “move on” people—focus your attention away from the the TL people and onto the BoR and Administration and request that they settle. See, now we are united in a cause. Get this settled and we will be able to “move on” in an honorable way and begin to rebuild our damaged University.

We can speculate all we want. The bottom line s that the trial is moving forward. I hope that Leach does well and there is nothing I would like more than for chancellor Kent (republican lobbyist) Hance and the rest of the three muscatels to be fired. When Hance leaves, he can take his faithful indian companion Alberto (I can’t remember) Gonzales with him.
I hope that Leach gets what he need from discovery and that he wins. As for Tuberville, I think the jury is out on him (Aside from his involvement, if any, with this case) until next season. We will have to wait and see how he does.
Tech’s administration is loaded with inept retired has been politicians and the person to blame for that is in Austin. If you are serious about wanting change, think about who to vote for in the fall. We are not going to get a clean house until we get rid of the people that brought in the dirt.

Bshing another persons opinion is flat wrong, we can agree to disagree, bringing in religion is wrong too, using cuss words or calling people names is immature also, Leach brought in millons to this community because of the ofense and how he was, he was able to take cast off players and win games with them because of the offense he ran, Tech finally was getting some recognition and beginning to recruit better players, hopefully we can all go on and with the new coach but there are toomany unanswered questions how this whole fiasco was handled, hopefully we can learn the truth but when I seethat Frenship is withholding records on this case but didnt in the above meantioned case of the murder suicide it realy makes me wonder what the hell is going on and thats how this has always been suspend a coach before a bowl game, why couldnt it wait and conflicting doctor syatements and on and on, anyone would question this fiasco..

I definitely shall keep an eye on Craig Myers. If he ever tries to run for Congress, I shall be all over it! The very idea that one person can take down two major football teams for his own personal gain is truly ludicrous! Doesn’t anyone else find it ironic that in the very year that SMU finally showed signs of recuperation, the incident at TTU occurred?

tech does need a new bb coach. this team went steadily downhill all season. a team ought to get better as a season progresses. pk just does not have the maturity to coach in the big 12. he needs to hone his craft at a smaller school. his learning time should not be at tech’s expense. there are too many proven coaches out there for tech to hire. by the way, good luck mike leach!

Yes it took ten years but Leach was set up to win the conference next year! What a joke. His best chance was when he had Crabtree and Harrell and went to Oklahoma and got blown out, then Barely beat baylor and then Lost to Ole Miss. Get over it. Your Lord and saviour Leach is gone. Leach- The messiah of the big 12

Yes, this was indeed Leachs’ year. His recruiting class and his leftover talent from last year. That, along with the fact that OU and Texas will going through rebuilding WAS going to give Leach a chance to win the Big 12 in 2010. Now that he is gone, Tuberville will get credit for anything great that MAY happen in 2010, unless he is somehow tied to the hance/james scandal.

I applaud Leach’s attorneys for doing their job. Public schools must submit records when requested. There is a paper trail when it comes to public schools-when were records requested from the children’s previous school? This could be telling. When did the children/family tour a school before arriving? Public school e-mails are public record as well. People must sign in/out of schools when visiting. Schools are supposed to keep this information-it’s computerized in most schools because you have to scan your drivers license to get in (checking for registered sex offenders.) Why leave a stone unturned when you are trying to prove a timeline? Good job to the Leach leagal team. I wish Mike Leach all the best. I never cared about Tech football before Leach. My first child went to Tech in 1999-were the Tech football games ever on TV back then? My parents, who live out of state, knew nothing about Tech or Tech football. That’s all changed, now that my third child is at Tech, and it’s thanks to Mike Leach.

AGAIN, The Frenship records were made public and to the media recently when a young girl student at Frenship was involved in a murder suicide , they released those records then but wont release them now claiming Federal laws and the district lawyers are supporting this, that doesnt make sense to me if you dont have anything to hide release the records, dont hide behind lawyers and federal laws when you just got through doing it, releasing records not that long ago, makes them look guilty and trying to hide something in my opinion,.

This thing couldnt go any slower. I cant wait for next season either so all these fans of tub will see that the coach that was here was the difference. And for the last time, he didnt abuse adam, he merely embarrassed him. It is funny to see this play out here before it actually goes through the court system. No matter how divided the comments are, one thing is unanimous, gerald must go.

Looks to me like Frenship is making exception for one family but not another, RR72. Where were the lawyers last time and why didnt they claim Federal laws then? Smells really bad to me.

Also this reminds me of when Adam James broke the dor in the athletic office and caused 1,100 dollars worth of damage and they didnt do jack to him but when Carter got po after the Houston game Leach suspended him, making exception for some people and not others, same old story, money talks and bs walks.

If you are the State of Texas, are you going to terminate the employment of your key defense witnesses in a law suit? If the State did fire some of the administration it would weaken their case as long as the case is pending. You might call this case the “Continued Employment Act For Tech Administrators”. This is one reason why I think we need to get this settled. The sooner it is off the docket, the sooner we can start fixing our problems.

Good point, RR fan.,but I personally would rather see it go to court and get to the truth whatever it may be, if not a lot of Questions will linger for years to come in a lot of people minds, I really dont see this going away, there will be stuff to come out for years after this if it is settled, people will always wonder,it would be better to get to the bottom of this even if Hance and co stay on like you said, which makes a lot of sense.

Some things the Leachers might want to check into:
1. Why did the radio coverage contract get changed (Leach being a bully because someone might have not been kissing his posterior correctly).
2. How many of you could refuse to work with your employer, then opt to sue them to be able to do what you want and still have a job?
3. Look outside the huboplex, even the Big 12 and get a reaction to this whole situation. Here’s a hint: Most think team leachers are the biggest knobs in the world.

@Rob R “When this team wins the Big 12 South this coming season…”
Such a wild and dreamy claim makes me think this is your first year of paying attention to college football. There is absolutely no rationale behind that. In any year, that is an idea that would require many wild and crazy turns and twists. Tech is heading for more of its usual history, trying to play the same type of game against schools with much more talent, and typically losing to UT, A&M, OU, and OSU. These last few years, with Leach’s unorthodox approach, were the only times that fans had any rational reasons for believing Tech might, could, and sometimes would beat those schools.
Tubbs is a good coach, but he is certainly not a miracle worker. I predict the same sort of scenario to play out as it did with A&M over these last few years. A&M fired a fairly popular coach and has now been in a “rebuilding” phase for a long time. (a t least that is the excuse for mediocrity.) Given the Tech schedule this season, they will likely have a winning season, probably 7-5 and the Tech defenders will start bringing out the “rebuilding” talk, but there will be many more years ahead of 7-win seasons at best as long as they are part of the Big-12 South. Their only real hope is to leave the Big-12, or have one of the big boys leave–UT or OU.

I’m an Auburn person so I have no dog in this fight. However, Tubs was on an Atlanta radio station last week and they asked him about Leach. He said “Mike;s a good friend of mine, but he was looking for a way out of Lubbock even before the Adam James thing”. At the time I thought Huh? That makes no sense – but now seeing this development, maybe it does make sense and the Texas Tech leadership were telling that to Tubs in advance of Leach’s firing?
anyway, interview can be heard at http://www.790thezone.com and go to podcasts. You can scroll down and find the interview. Unfortunately, it also contains a little revisionist hisotry about what happened at Auburn and throwing a player under the bus – but we got fairly used to that during his time at Auburn…..

@AU Tiger
Thanks for the info. Tuberville’s statement is factually correct. Leach was looking for a way out because after that great 2008 year, the powers-that-be didn’t want to sign him to an extension, so it was well-known that he was job hunting then. Ultimately, it just seems like “the company line,” even if it is a bit revisionist in its nature. Sure, Leach was looking for a way out, but to imply that he wanted to leave under anything resembling these conditions is hardly something that I would want a “good friend of mine” purporting.
Good luck to the Tigers this year.

The fact is, Leech was looking for a job anywhere each season not just last year. He wanted UF, UA, WSU, UCLA just to name a few. Oh, they never called him, he called them just ask his agent. Guess what, no offers then and no offers now, he’s just to odd for those programs. He should have been thankful Tech let him stay as long as we did.
I got the job for him. If UTEP will hire Mike Price they’ll hire anyone. They UTEP!!!!!!! Mike Leech is looking for a job. We’ll trade you a Basketball coach.

Nice comment toward a school that continually destroys Tech in all athletics.
Also, I see a lot of appreciation going toward a guy who put TTU on the map in football. With the way they let the Coach go, I’m not sure he should feel grateful about much of anything. Time will perhaps tell more details of what went down. For now, the country outside of Lubbock will enjoy Tech losses, but not watch as many of them, just like the days before Leach.

GK, You didnt tell bleeding red what a loyal person he is and fan or if he was here i lubbock when it was a treat to watch them on tv,or ask him just how that Frenship releases records for one person , student and not another because the dad is a coach at Tech, how does that work? Puple Cow,
I have been a season ticket holder longer that you have been born. I have seen coachs come and coachs go. 10yrs is enough time for any coach. Oh and Spike had Tu’s number. Mike won one game with Spikes team his first year as coach and got lucky in 2008, Dropped Int.
Things change. Mike wanted out of Lubbock, he got what he wanted. I guess you “T” shirt fans won’t be at the games this year. Maybe you should hit the 7-11 and get yourself a uT hat.
By the way I know a lot of high school coaches. The reason Mike could not get great recruits is none of them liked him. Boy they liked Macy Mac. Mac goes to the high school and talks to the players before games, then drops some change on their programs.
Mike did not want to play the game, what a shame he could have been one of the best in college. Now I’m not sure he’ll coach high school ball anywhere.

Well said bleeding I somewhat agree, Leach was not a conformer, and never would have been, that went against his grain and I admire him for it, youre right sadly it was his downfall, Carlen was that way too and he left Tech under the same circumstances but he wasnt fired, he won like Leach and sadly you are right He will probably have ahard time coaching anywhere because of how he is, I do appreciate what he ha done for Tech and Lubbock and to throw him under the bus is flat wrong. We all live in a corrupt world and put up with a lot to keep our jobs and if you dont learn how to conform most likely you wont survive,The people in charge, Hance and co. simply wanted someone that was more of a conformer and more polished once Mike laid the groundwork for a coach like Tubby , Tech new how Mike was before they hired him but once he built a winning team they simply did not have a need for him anymore, too bad he didnt leave in 08, I think he was seeing the hand writing on the wall and Im sure Tuberville knew it too.

I don’t like how Mike was done nor did I like how they ran Spike off. The first five years after Tech, Spike was recruiting for Texas. He got them Ricky Williams and Benson out of Midland.
Spike left a good team for Mike to take over, Mike in turn has left Tommy a good team. Let’s hope he can build on it. If he does we will be at the next level.
College football. Either the coach screws the school, which mean he can leave at anytime without owing them anything or the school screws the coach when them want something better or someone else.
My thing, Tech put it to Mike before he could us. In the game of chicken Mike just got ran over.

Lets hope that Tuberville isnt involved in all of this, but with holding records of his sons when you made allowances for that young girl not that long ago makes me wonder, personally also hope he doesnt play off the players that Leach recruited like Sloan did after Carlen, so far hes recruited a couple of good players in the high schools, we shall see how all this turns out, I have a gut feeling that it will get nastier in court and in the headlines concerning the Leach case.

Like I said this is nothing new. It’s how big schools work. Mike is screwed. He should have held his cards tight and sat out the Alamo Bowl to see where they were going. Instead he forced their hand and got burned. I don’t think they had grounds to fire him until he tried to sue the State. Remember Tech is a State school, something I think Mike forgot. Right now the Tax payers out, not Tech. Regardless no one will want a coach that sues his employer. Would you.

Yep your right Bleeding red thats how they work, the rats will just find a new place to go hang out at. gotto admit it is interesting, however.

Coach Leach did not sue his employer. He filed a Restraining Order asking the Judge to prevent the administration from suspending him for the Alamo Bowl for what he believed was unjust cause and without due process. How would you feel if you worked all year towards something and once you achieved it, your employer unilaterally and without cause told you you were not going to reap your reward? Coach Leach had every right to protect his rights. This is America isn’t it? If the truth be known, the admin was going to use the suspension as a means of avoiding payment of the bonus Coach Leach would have received for winning a bowl game in addition to the $800,000 they avoided by firing him.
You want to reunify Tech support again? Clean house in the administration building and give Adam James his walking papers. Until that happens, you will continue to have people bitter.

This is America allright but we do things different at Tech and Lubbock we suspend a coach before a bowl game, we issue a statement to the media before the bowl game so that espn could run it through their game and try and convict Leach, we give marginal player a scho;larship who has a well known helicopter dad in the mist, we let him goof off in practice and get by with it slam a door and cuss out coaches and cause 1,100 dolars worth of damage and not kick him off the team, we fire a coach so we dont have to pay him and before he is able to defend himself, we hire a coach that was let go from another school and not make a reasonable search for one,we hire coaches in the middle of the season just because we can, we keep losing coaches and fire winning ones because they dont wear a suit and tie and dont like to speak in public we dont like subpoenas although everyone has a right supposedly to defend theirselves, we publish a student at Frenship records but claim federal and state privacy laws for coachs sons, no my friend we are in Lubbock, Texas we do things different here. we also have regents and a president and a chancellor and a athletic director who are immune and the local press and tv and talk radio that back there play.
