Tech’s Mallard suspended

Texas Tech sophomore center Kierra Mallard has been suspended indefinitely according to a release from the school late Friday afternoon.

The team was in Austin on Saturday preparing for Sunday’s 1 p.m. game against the University of Texas.

“Sometimes you have to make decisions that are best for your team,” head coach Kristy Curry said in a statement, “and I beliee this is the right thing for our program at this time.”

The statement did not say when or if Mallard would be reinstated, staing Curry does not discuss personnel decisions and would not comment further on the issue.

Mallard is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 12.6 points per game.

Dont know what went down but hate to hear that, they have enough trouble as it is ,I doubt if a coaching change will be made but its pretty evident that a change is needed.

Let the Coach coach the team and make her decisions as she feels fit. Judge her at the appropriate time.

Mallard probably talked back to the coach, so…what else can they do? But, I too wish Tech would get rid of Curry ASAP so the program can start to rebuild. It’s pretty obvious that Curry’s lost the team, they’ve lost respect for her, and that Curry’s lost confidence in herself. Do you see the pictures of Curry these days? She looks like she’d rather be somewhere else!

But…’ole Gerald M. will probably keep her around ONE more year.

Ok let’s fire curry, but who will we hire that would want to come here? No one, quit whining. Obviously the players don’t care and curry can’t help that. We have had some injuries(nobles) and other things haven’t gone our way. STOP COMPLAINING

Hey RR, if you’re a Tech fan and you buy a ticket you’ve got the right to razz the coach. It’s one of the oldest and dearest traditions in American sports–so get used to it! And as far as “hurting the coach’s feelings”, as Harry Truman used to say “If you can’t take the heat, then get out of the kitchen!”

    The 2 Curry’s about $500,000 a year.
She’s in over her head. And how come Myers always puts the whole damn family on the pay roll.
Wish I could work a deal like that at Tech for me and my old Aunt, as coach in waiting.
Good thing Leach made enough money for Tech to pay 2 Knights and 2 Currys.
Good job Gerald. And old man Knight sittin up there in that V.I.P. room eatin an drinkin on us
suckers payin Junior Knight One Million and Two Hundred Thousand Dollars A Year.
    What a Joke.

The biggest travesty in the history of the school, devastation in the football program, an UNBELIEVABLE firing when the one who did the firing should have been the one fired, such a tragic event that it is unknown if the school can even recover and your talking about the WOMENS BASKETBALL COACH????????????????? PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pull up a school bus and remove: Curry-Curry, Knight-Knight, Hance, Myers, Sowell, White, Scovell, Gleeson, Bailey, and Obama. Hire Ronald Ross and Graham Harrell as co-czars of Tech, since they are the men who got Tech nearer to the top than ANYONE, EVER.

How about Krista Gerlich to replace Curry? She’s 22-2 at WTAMU this season and already has 100 career coaching wins. She might be the right person to restore greatness to the program.

Amrilloraider has a great suggestion. Use Tech as a stepping stone to a bigger school. who cares as long as we can win some games. Curry was a hot shot from Purdue and that is crap on the court. Everyone shoots theway the want and the coach sits on the bench like she bought a ticket.

    Fire Coach Curry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gerlich might stay in Lubbock if given the chance, after all, she was on the 1993 National Championship team. By the way, she won again tonight, so now her record as a head coach is probably 101 wins vs 18 losses. Impressive, even if it is only Division II.

I think people are failing to see that Curry is having to rebuild a program with Sharp’s last recruits as well. It’s obvious to me that some of the trouble lies there as well. Look at the talent our freshman have this season and look at the long term. I love Curry, the players love Curry, and people need to be patient a little longer. Support our girls out there and stick around a little longer please!!
