Cumbie promoted to inside receivers coach
Texas Tech has promoted Sonny Cumbie from graduate assistant coach to a full-time staff position at inside receivers coach, the Avalanche-Journal confirmed. New head coach Tommy Tuberville has one spot left to fill.
The only hires that Tech has officially announced Tuberville took over are Neal Brown as offensive coordinator and James Willis as defensive coordinator.
Tech also is known to have hired Chad Scott from Troy University as running backs coach, Tommy Mainord from Lamar as wide receivers coach and Travaris Robinson from Southern Mississippi as defensive backs coach.
They join two holdovers: offensive line coach Matt Moore and defensive line coach Charlie Sadler.

I’m not sure if Cumbie is the right guy for the position but I will just wait and see how the receivers do this fall.

you don’t think that a guy who ran this offense can’t do as good as a guy who wasn’t a good enough player to step on the field. wow!

Didn’t Lincoln Riley play for Leach??

Being a great player doesn’t mean you will be a great coach.

Sonny Cumbie brings a wealth of football knowledge and is perfect for the job. He will one day be Tech’s HC.

Riley was a walkon qb but switched to a student assistant and worked his way up

Wonder how Sonny will fit in at Troy West?

Let’d say Tuberville would have kept Riley at inside receiver’s coach or moved him to another position such as QB coach. Do you think he would have stayed at Tech when offered a promotion to OC at another school? Same with Mitchell?

When Leach got himself fired, who would have thought of the many coaching doors and oppprtunities it opened for other coaches?
Ruffin: goes from a DC to a HC
Riley: goes from a position coach to a OC
Mitchell: goes from a position coach to a DC
Cumbie: goes from a GA to a position coach
Willis:goes from a position coach to a DC
Brown: gets a promotion to a Div 1 school as the OC
Scott, Mainord, Robinson all get promotions from small schools to a Big 12 school.
Tuberville: goes from the unemployment line to a HC at a Big 12 school
Wow! Is there anybody I am missing? Obama should hire Leach as his Jobs Czar! When one door closes, several more open!

I think Cumbie will be a great fit. He truly understands offense. If we retain any version of the spread he should be able to coach these kids well for that position.

4Rings
Kent and Craig didn’t know they were going to create so many opportunities did they. They even gave Adam a reputation that will follow him for life. Ah well, at least they cheated Coach out of that money ( for now). Tell me this 4Rings, Is Sowder returning their phone calls? Is he in this with them, do you think he is going to apply their sovereign immunity for them?
I personally think he is an honest man and will NOT apply their sovereign immunity for them and will allow a LOT of discovery . What do you think, 4Rings? What do you and Kent and Craig talk about?
My guess is that, if mediation fails, Sowder will allow discovery for awhile before he finally rules on the sovereign immunity issue. I also believe, having had a case in his court, that he will be very thorough and fair in his analysis of the issues and will rule accordingly, no matter where the chips fall.

After a conference with Hance, Craig James, & coach Tubby, Cumbie decided to go for the dough!
Little James jr. will surely be getting lots of playing time now.
Power politics in action!

wazoo
It was my understanding that little James jr. was guaranteed more playing time last summer when Craig and tubby discussed the conditions of tubby getting the job?

Is anybody going to go to games this fall, or is everyone going to skip this season. I know 4 couples who are regular season ticket holders and they are going to skip this season.

I like this hire. There are those close to the program who think Cumbie had more to do with the play selection at the Alamo Bowl than did Riley. And that’s not a knock on Riley. Both are on track to excel in the coaching world.

Here, let me fix it for you: “When the Good Ol Boy network decided to eliminate an outsider who didn’t fit their mold of what a head coach should be, who would have thought of the many coaching doors and opportunities it opened for other coaches?”

Techster,
I am sure Sowder will make a ruling based on his interpretation of law. If his ruling goes against Mike, then Mike can instruct his attorney to file an appeal. Speaking of Mike’s attorney, is there any reason he didn’t hire a more competent attorney?
If the ruling is against Tech, then I think it would be in Tech’s interest not to appeal. Tech needs to step up, do the right thing and pay MIke his money so we can all move on.
When I speak with Kent and Craig we usually talk about all the damage being done to Tech and the football program by a small minority of nay sayer doom and gloomers. And that Craig James—–he never picks up the bill at Denny’s when we eat there, the cheapskate that he is.
Hey, it just dawned on me….Mike’s firing also put to work several law firms. Heck, we will soon have full employment!

So you , Kent and Craig don’t even want to take credit for the damage you are causing to Tech and the football program! That’s amazing but actually, i’m not at all surprised!
When you guys decided to get Craig to lodge the complaint, you thought with his celebrity status nobody would even bat an eye when you fired Mike, right?
What do you guys think now? I mean what is it like behind closed doors at the govenors office? What does Rick think? Did you guys think there would be this much turmoil with people wanting to know the truth?

Thank You Raider Backer………
For fixing 4rings poor choice of words. We’re supposed to “move on”, but they continue to twist the knife
Hance & Myers put in our back. I’m not much into the “turn the other cheek” philosophy, at this point.
As always I remind everyone,

Wow, Cumbie has been promoted from graduate assistant to full time baby sitter. What a deal. I wonder if the three muscatels (Hance, Bailey and Meyers) got together and decided who could get baby James the most playing time. Of course, Chancellor Kent (republican lobbyist) Hance probably talked it over with his friedn Alberto (I can’t remember) Gonzales who he hired for a $100,000.00 a year to teach one course a semester. Does any of the coaching staff make $850.00 per hour?
I assume James Sowell in Dallas approved this choice.
