Alamo Bowl sets ESPN record

Saturday night’s Texas Tech-Michigan State Alamo Bowl had 8.9 million viewers, setting a record as the most-watched bowl game in ESPN history, an official said Tuesday.

The Texas-Iowa Alamo Bowl in 2006 was the previous most-watched ESPN bowl game all-time, according to the Alamo Bowl Web Site, drawing 8.8 million viewers.

I’m still disgusted with ESPN for bagging on Leach before and during the Alamo Bowl game. They also gave Craig James some ESPN air time. Whether you liked Leach or not (and I liked him), ESPN’s efforts to influence public opinion in favor of James is inexcusable. And, on top of everything else, they obviously profited from the negative publicity surrounding the game. I’m surprised that the reaction of the viewing public, and especially Raider fans, hasn’t been more negative towards ESPN.

Wow! What great ratings that got to see a good game, as Tech beat a mediocre team from the Big 10, got to see a record setting night by the quarterback (not Caleb’s BJ buddy), got to see another quarterback come in and deliver in crunch time, and probably did not get to hear the roaring disapproval of Adam James. It was definitely a game to see in person to get the full effect of what the administration’s actions have done to our school. I did not see a single person not support the team, but it was a very odd feeling to me. Like you didn’t know if you should be thinking you wanted to tell Leach goodbye, pat Ruffin on the back, or kick Gerald Myers in the teeth.

For those of you who were at the game, did you notice that the stadium screens tried to avoid showing any Leach signs. My favorite was the coed who had a we love Tech sign which they put up on the board, and then she flipped it over to show “we love our pirate” before they could take the camera off of her. hirlarious. Best of Luck to the new coach. I’ll be watching you on TV. My bet says its Ruff.

I don’t know about the “pea brains” but the intelligent folks of West Texas (South Plains, actually) have pondered virtually all possible scenarios. You last sentence is certainly true, and I’d guess that, by your inclusion of the phrase that you, too, “don’t know what you don’t know?”

There is a lot of dirt left to blow in the West Texas wind. Sadly, it will likely be buried through an out of court “Mangino” settlement.

Bobert419……..there are many of us in Raider Nation that know it’s not only about football…….please. Quit insulting our intelligence. Believe me no one in my career history that I know of has refused to hire me because of my degree from a West Texas university. Again, remember that Leach had the best graduation rates in the Big 12.

That being said, what disturbes me about this whole thing is that the trickle down CAN affect our university in other critical areas……alumni contributions which go to student scholarships, etc. I have seen on various blogs that some Tech alumni are already pulling their financial support because of this mess. Football floats the boat for so many things. Alumni like myself find that the football team is a way to stay connected to Tech and I would say this is the case for many other people all over the U.S. I have been contributing to the Century Club for over 20 years….long before we got to this level of success. I will continue to do so.

This will be the most important hire in Tech football history…….are Myers, Hance and Bailey up to the job? I wish I had more faith in them. If they don’t hire someone that understands and can run the spread, then we’re in trouble. No one wants to watch “3 yards and a cloud of dust” type of offense anymore.

One more thing…….it was all about the money. I have it from an excellent source that a certain e-mail was sent which stated that Leach had to be removed before the deadline for his bonus to be paid. And, it appears that the pirate has this e-mail in his possession. This is going to be an ugly day in court for someone.

Does anyone have a link to a YouTube video or other source that shows Adam James antagonizing the fans? Someone elsewhere eluded to his actions but I have yet to see anything conclusive. Of course I wouldn’t expect ESPN to have aired that footage, but someone’s personal video might have captured the act … if its true!

While I have a severe dislike of any nearly 22-year-old who is incapable of handling their own affairs, I don’t want to drag him behind the stagecoach any farther than he actually deserves. At least he’s been smart enough to say absolutely nothing since his fabricated YouTube videos were exposed. (Craig “Little League Dad”, on the other hand, …. )

As a old time fan going back to the Dewitt Weaver days, I am here to tell you Tech has never been able to stand prosperity. Leach, for whatever faults he had was a d__ good coach and he put Tech on the map. He upstaged his boss Gerald Myers and just like he was playing round ball for Tech in the late fifties he cannot stand being upstaged. I think Adam James is a cry baby, probably lazy, and spoiled, We have YOUNG men in our military younger than him who I am sure had a rougher 2 or 3 days than James ever thought of in that ” terrible ” room. Craig James has now had a hand in ruining two football programs that I know of. SMU twenty five years ago and now Tech. I just hope it does not take 25 years for Tech to recover I do not personally know Coach Leach but I hope he sues Tech and if I were him I would add a separate law suit against Craig James for deformation of character and loss of income and mental anguish. I have said my piece. This is the last you will hear from me.
