Raiders head into open week on high note

One of the best things a football team can do for a bye week is take care of business beforehand. Texas Tech did that Saturday with a 42-21 victory over Kansas, and now the Red Raiders can rest on their first open weekend since the season started.
Eager to wash away the taste of a 52-30 [...]
Texas Tech Football Notebook

Doege debuts
Texas Tech quarterback Seth Doege completed 14 of 28 passes in his first career start. He threw for 159 yards and a touchdown, but Tech coach Mike Leach went back to original starter Taylor Potts with the game tied 14-14 at halftime.
Doege didn’t get the team across midfield on five of the first six [...]
Leach gets back to winning and back in good spirits
There was no need to diss the players after this one, let alone their girlfriends.
Instead, Mike Leach was mostly complimentary after a fourth-quarter surge sent Texas Tech to a 42-21 win over Kansas on Saturday. And the Red Raiders’ head coach was back to his fun-loving, rambling self.
Leach was comfortable and congenial as he addressed [...]

Williams: More treats than tricks for Tech

That was one crazy Halloween afternoon at Jones AT&T Stadium.

More subdued Batch ignites late surge

Baron Batch is one of the most vocal players on Texas Tech’s roster — in the locker room, in the huddle and on the sideline — and his teammates feed off his intensity and encouragement.
But in a key Big 12 Conference game against Kansas on Saturday afternoon, Batch said he took a much more subdued [...]
Effort much improved from last week as defense leads way to win

For the Texas Tech defense, four words summed up the day: That’s more like it.
Coming off an embarrassing no-show the week before against Texas A&M, the Tech defense dominated Kansas, and the Red Raiders posted a 42-21 victory Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium in a game they trailed 21-14 after three quarters.
Tech (6-3, 3-2 in [...]
Tech Cross Country repeats
Texas Tech may have lost its national champion, but the women’s cross country team held on to its Big 12 title.
The No. 14 Red Raiders became back-to-back conference champions on Saturday, as four runners placed in the top 10 at the 2009 Big 12 Championships in Columbia, Mo.
Coach Jon Murray said the already challenging course [...]
