Tech notes: Batch, Bird, Winn, Sharpe win weekly captains’ vote
Texas Tech elected new captains for the third week in a row Sunday. This time, running back Baron Batch, offensive tackle Marlon Winn, defensive end Brandon Sharpe and linebacker Bront Bird got the nods for Saturday’s game against Texas A&M.
Tech coaches have said the weekly vote gives the team the best chance to have captains who have played well and shown leadership lately.
Tech coach Mike Leach called off the team’s usual on-field Sunday night workout, which he has done several times over the years from mid-season on.
Another record sought
With new sections in Jones AT&T Stadium opening for the first time, Tech is hoping to break the home attendance record of 56,333 set last year against Texas.
Tech officials say a student attendance record also could be set because extra seating will be held Saturday for the student body. The student record is just under 12,000.
Wonder if the governor is going to send his chief of staff to Lubbock to attempt to incite a riot?
