Sheffield listed No. 1 at quarterback
Texas Tech released a depth chart Thursday for Saturday’s game against Nebraska showing Steven Sheffield as the No. 1 quarterback.
Tech coach Mike Leach has made no official announcement, though when he was asked earlier this week if he faced a new problem at quarterback, he said, “This is the first time I’ve ever changed or potentially changed or any of that. Yeah, I guess it’s new at that position.’’
Taylor Potts, who started the first five games before suffering a concussion, is on the travel roster for the Nebraska game and is listed as the backup to Sheffield on the depth chart.
Potts practiced this week in pads, although all Tech quarterbacks always work out in blue jerseys that signify no contact allowed.
Starting center Shawn Byrnes, safety Cody Davis and defensive end Daniel Howard, all of whom missed last week’s game against Kansas State, practiced this week, as did starting cornerback LaRon Moore, who played only the first defensive series against Kansas State. They all are traveling to Nebraska.
Group sales promotion extended
Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers said the current group sales promotion of 50 tickets for $50 apiece to the Oct. 24 Texas A&M game will be extended and the same deal offered for the Nov. 21 home game against Oklahoma.
Myers made the announcement Thursday during a news conference to discuss the Jones AT&T Stadium expansion.
As he stood in the new upper-level northeast corner section, Myers said he wouldn’t mind buying four tickets there.
“These are great seats, a great view, a great way to watch a football game,’’ he said.
Myers said about 5,000 tickets are left for the A&M game — about 3,000 in the new sections and about 2,000 in the original stadium bowl.
The new areas actually will be divided into six sections: Nos. 113, 114 and 115 on the stadium’s northeast corner and Nos. 106, 107 and 108 on the northwest corner.
Put your best team on the field for their whoopin’.

Nebraska can’t handle Tech’s diversity. To many weapons!

woh woh woh, raiderh8r, i presume you’re a nebraska fan. now what, exactly, has nebraska done to legitimize themselves completely after an abismal last few years? let me answer for you, not much. a “close one” against VT at their home is nothing to hang your head over, but wins are what counts. so by my estimation, nebraska has beaten (hang on let me calculate….1, carry the 4, plus this okay….round it up for fairness), okay NOBODY of note. I’ll be the first to say that Tech has a lot to prove as well; after all we’ve got two losses. NU has a nasty D, I believe that to be a true statement. Let’s all try to stop reading our own press though and let the proof be in the pudding. I think this will be a good game.

A boy named Suh shouldn’t play with sticks – he might get hurt real bad.

Glad to hear about Sticks. He has earned his spot. I do believe Potts has a better arm. However, it is the battlefield steadiness this former Marine sees in Sheffield that makes him the choice. Kick Butt Red Raiders!

“Some Ugly Husker”, SUH, still won’t know who he is after this game.
You will be amazed at what this young man can do. Suh is a very humble man, and is very focused
Report this comment
This is bad news for Suh…Sticks has shown that he has no qualms about breaking the pocket and heading down field. He’ll have to start thinking twice about rushing in. That should give Sticks plenty of time to pick apart NU’s untested defense.
Maybe he is humble, I don’t personally know him, but he is only amazing against teams like La Lafayette, Fla. Atlantic, Arkansas St., and less than par Missouri. He had “1″ tackle against VT.

Hey moron, there are already sections 106, 107, and 108. What are they trying to do, cause confusion in the seating?

Longhorns…Even if you make to the Big Game, you will be humiliated by no less than 3 scores. We play BOTH defense and OFFENSE.

Too early in conference play for any real sense of who’s who. I’d like to think tech can hang forty on ya and wouldn’t be surprised if they do. Tomorrow will separate the champs from the chumps. I got love for the big 12, hope tech gets it done.

Tech fans, what’s up with the point spread going from 5 1/2 to 10 1/2 points? Has anyone paid any attention to the way the Raiders have played? I’m back in Nebraska for the game and everyone here, is just hoping to win, nobody thinks the Huskers will win by a significant amount, if at all.
the reason spread went up is because we are starting a non battle tested quarterback. Im a tech guy too so tech fans dont take this wrong haha. He hasnt been on the road yet or really played anyone yet. I’m sure the words “backup starting” in Lincoln probably had something to do with it going up. Anyways should be a good game. we will have to find a way to beat the neb d ends playin contain and just letting suh go after sticks cause I dont want him to have to run up the middle. That might not end up too good. Go red raiders.

OMG! Did that guy say the proof is in the ‘pudding’ ? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! What pudding? You hungry Tex?
The proof is in the putting.
Egads, that is embarrasing for you.

You’ll make fools of yourselves on the field, don’t make it worse by talking.

Raider H8R — “pudding” is correct. the original phrase was “the proof of the pudding is in the eating.”
