Potts, Stone admitted to Covenant hospital

Texas Tech quarterback Taylor Potts and cornerback Nathan Stone were admitted to Covenant Medical Center after being injured in Saturday’s 48-28 victory over New Mexico at Jones AT&T Stadium, a Covenant spokesman said.

As of 11 p.m., the spokesman said neither had been discharged.

Potts was examined for a concussion he suffered on a second-quarter sack.

Stone was being examined for a possible spinal injury after he made the tackle on a third-quarter kickoff. The former Roosevelt standout flipped return man Frankie Solomon, but took a knee to the helmet in the process and fell face forward to the turf.

Stone remained motionless for several minutes as he was attended to on the field, but was able to walk off with assistance. Several minutes later, while Stone was standing, he was stabilized with a back board and then carted out of the stadium.

Not being a smart mouth here…why not UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER?

Don’t understand why they went elsewhere. Hope they both recover quickly.

As a Husker, I’m looking forward to our game with Tech. I didn’t see Tech’s game with these injuries,
but my heart sure goes out to these guys, and they families and fans. I hope your injuries aren’t as
serious as they sound, and that both of you guys get up on your feet real, real soon!

NMRaider — I thought the exact same thing! Hello!

I also don’t understand why they let Stone walk off the field under his own accord. If there was an inkling of spinal injury, they should have played it safe and carried him off on a backboard. Best wishes to both players for a speedy recovery!

Why do teams like Texas, Houston, and UNM find it necessary to hit our players so hard. That is mean and uncivilized. They should be penalized for playing so rough. Our players don’t go around hitting other players so hard. They are nice and gentle. So, why aren’t we treated the same way? We ask that the remaining teams be more gentle with our players. Please, we beg you, be kind to us. We denounce hard impact football on the field.

The latest research peer reviewed by the Academy of Sports Dentistry and a Harvard MGH specialist, suggests a retainer like Mouth guard used in the NFL and with such programs as the University of Texas, should be considered as part of a return to play protocol. One concussion and your six times more likely to have another, this protocol identifies and corrects a known link to the concussion origin. http://www.mahercor.com

my prayers and I m sure lots of other folks are with these young men, I know football is a rough sport but they should be able to protect QUATERBACKS IN COLLEGE BETTER, the hit that Potts tok in the Texas game was illegal and would be a fine for the player in the NFL and apossible suspension, I guess its going to take someone getting paralyzed, oops forgot , thats already happened or dying , hasnt happened yet, hope it never does to protect these young men better.

Yes, I agree, the NCAA should protect our Tech players better. Our QB shouldn’t be allowed to be touched at all.
