Tech notes: Saturday’s game sells out

Texas Tech officials announced Thursday that all the tickets for Saturday’s home game against New Mexico have been sold.

The game kicks off at 2:30 p.m. and will be televised by FSN (Suddenlink Cable channel 20).

Ticket sales got a boost from the Family Weekend promotion in conjunction with the game.

Nickerson given consideration to start

Texas Tech could have a third new starter at strong safety for Saturday’s game against New Mexico. Brent Nickerson has gotten time with the first team this week, and defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill said the choice is between Nickerson and Brett Dewhurst, who started the last two games.

Original starter Franklin Mitchem returned to practice this week, but isn’t ready to get back into the lineup. Mitchem got hurt in the Sept. 12 game against Rice and missed the road trips to Texas and Houston.
He wasn’t on the dress roster Tech released Thursday.

McNeill said Nickerson, a senior who spent his entire career at cornerback until two weeks ago, is processing safety easily enough.

“Once they learn (a position), you can move them somewhere else and it makes sense to them,’’ McNeill said. “Brent’s been at corner, so he’s got a tie-in call with the safety. That wasn’t really a difficult move.’’

Nickerson started nine games last season at cornerback.

McNeill said the biggest adjustment moving from cornerback to safety is that the latter requires a wider field of vision.

Not Nickerson…nooooooooo…remember old miss? Noooooooo…this is truly the best at safety we have to pick from??? An old man with a broken leg or a kid with polio, maybe…just not Nickerson. Heck, Mitchem with two arms tied behind his back! Just…not…Nickerson, please.

    @ techaddict….

U most certainly must be an addict…to something other than football. U sound so ignorant! Do you even ‘know’ football or have you always just tailgated? Nickerson is just as good–if not better– than the cornerbacks and the guys playing safety!

Name 1 tech player who hasn’t been scored on in those positions…take your time. I’ll wait.

that’s cause tech’s whole secondary is so bad.

it’s like saying slippery rock is better than idaho tech state — when you need to be like OU.

poop, as I said…I am a blogger not a “professional” and I don’t know if you saw the first posting or the updated edited one. When I saw it first it not only had spelling but had wrong words placed in the story and was hard to read or make heads or tails what the author was intending to state. They don’t have spell check available to us bloggers here, but you bet they do on their typewritters at the AJ.

Who’s Nickerson? Oh yeah, the one who got torched for an 80+ yard sideline fade vs. UT last year at a pivitol time in the ballgame. At least the safeties job doesn’t have anything to do with not letting anyone behind you…..Prove us nay sayers wrong, Brent, and play well.

Nickerson was beaten several times last year. The UT game was almost the back-breaker. However, he is another year older and, hopefully, wiser. And we are playing New Mexico, so hopefully he won’t be challenged that much this week anyway. A good game to get his feet wet. I will be pulling for him to have a good game.

    TECH PROUD,

We are now used to winning. We only storm the field when we knock a cocky team out of their chance at a National Championship. Wasnt it sweet.

    P.S.

I would not want to be NM this weekend. Expect Potts to be searching for a reckoning.Or should it be called Wreckening. Potts is going to turn a lot of heads by the end of the season. Wait, and see.
