Texas Tech Fans’ Reaction
Texas Tech fans have had plenty to say since learning about the suspension of offensive lineman Brandon Carter. The story received close to ten times the page views of most stories we publish on our Web sites. Here are some of the comments that have been posted on RedRaiders.com:
“We need Brandon on the field and his team needs his leadership!”

“Mike Leach is losing control of this team. He tried leaving Tech with a decent record every year, maybe he thinks if he goes 5-7 or 6-6 he can leave by getting fired and receiving a nice buyout.”

We don’t need him no more. ANYBODY can pull what he did at Houston”

“When the opponent’s offense gets about 600 yards, you are going to lose 99 percent of the time.
Perhaps Marlon Williams should twitter about that.
Leach is a very good coach, and those Tech players who don’t want to play for him should try to transfer to A&M.”

“I’m a Raider, I bleed Scarlet and Black, and it’s a shame to lose Carter, but Leach is the coach and should be supported through this. When he wiins with his “BS” we love him, and when we hit a rough spot, we say it’s time for him to go. Last year when he was in contract negotiations, we thought they should fire the AD, now two losses to ranked teams (i.e. teams that statistically we should lose to), and it’s time for Leach to go. I expect that from Short Horns and ATM fans, but Tech is supposed to be above all of that. Lets Go TECH!!!”

Coach Leach should have been fired earlier this year when we had the perfect opportunity. I was for his firing then, and I am even more for it now. Think back about the slander campaign that he mounted against Tech. I suspect he would be delighted to be fired this year because he walks with a boatload of cash. He has atrocious “management” skills with his players (ie, calling some of them “malcontents”). He lost the Houston game for us with his quarterback sneak. His decision to go for it on fourth down on the wrong end of the field in the Texas game could have been the key to that loss. He just isn’t a nice person. Let’s get Sumlin, Holgersen, and Kingsbury!

No, no, no. I remember the Spike Dykes days. Anyone who doesn’t think consistent 8-win (and occasional 11 win) seasons aren’t good enough should walk the plank. Coach Leach’s playcalling has gotten us this far, he called the plays that beat Texas, completed the greatest comeback in bowl history, and upset #5 Cal at the Holiday Bowl.
If you can’t hang in there through the hard times, then you’re a malcontent too. Keep Coach Leach. Fire the traitors.

The suspended players will be absent for the blowout win over NM. Then, they will return. Tech and Mr. Leach have lost two very tough road games by a grand total of 11 points that would have been lost by 98% of the programs in the country. I SUSPECT TECH WOULD HAVE WON BOTH GAMES AT HOME TO INCLUDE TEXAS. Mr. Potts, because of the nature of the road games, now has end-of-the-season maturity for a first year starter. All of this is good. NOW WATCH TECH GO OFF ON A WINNING STREAK. Afterward, I can keep mouthing off and the nay sayers can shut up.

Keep Mike Leach….
I swear this sounds like a F**KN married couple. BLAH BLAH BLAH…. Get over it, we lost it happens. Kiss and make-up and lets play some football. Leach is doing fine, yes he botched a couple of plays that cost us the game but if those plays were done according to plan he would be considered the smartest coach in College Football (Onside Kick @ Texas, Goal line @ Houston). Lets just regroup like we have in the past and play hard & WIN….. GUNZ UP!!!!

Hey Raider nation.. CHILL OUT!! it is early in the season.Personally the three would have given TTECH the 8 pt edge and then the COOGs would have had to get the 2pat to just TIE!!!…defense played hard..If you get the six (31-23) then these blogs don’t mean spit… Remember this term …Fair-weather fans!!! YO RUFF…GUNS UP….world b. free from NC

Kudos to Coach Leach! Shrink those players’ heads back to normal size; take away the “social networking” garbage. He’s the coach and he calls the shots. Anyone who doesn’t like it can put a cork in it or take a walk. No one play loses a game. Since my experience is limited (I’ve never coached a college team at anything) I’ll not second guess the coach with the benefit of repeated replays and after-the-fact evaluations. It’s done. Chalk it up as experience and let’s get on with the season. WRECK ‘EM, TECH!!

Team policies are clearly presented to all players every year. There are players nearly every year that get in Leach’s dog house for breaking one. The rules and consequences for breaking those rules are consistent to all players as it should be. I’m glad Leach holds his players accountable for their actions and disciplines them consistently whether they are pre-season All American or scout team heros.
It is easy to support Leach and his team when things are going well so there is no pride in being a fan of a winning team, but there is shame in being a fair weather fan. Quit acting like a bunch of flakes and wait for something more than a missed field goal opportunity before you starting voting for “Change!”
(Report comment)
The only change I want is in the offensive line.
Something is wrong with play calling too.
Criticism of 2 specific areas shouldn’t be linked to advocating personnel changes.
Can I not be a supporter & talk about something being a-miss?

There have been some fluke seasons under leach. Staying true to his name, the man is a bloodsucker. He managed to lose against Houston! Conference USA??? Really? That’s who they lose to???? What are those players smoking? What were the fans in the crowd smokin? The funniest thing I saw was, after the game, the dumb 18 year olds in the stands giving the “horn’s down” sign! really? is this even about winning anymore or just putting down rivals. Leach has created the environment that has bred the hatred. Does Tech need to be the OU of the south?
(Report comment)
Why lack of love for Spike, he started Tech’s consistent winning ways, Leach has continued them. Each coach has his positives and negatives, as do all coaches. Both coaches deserve our thanks and appreciation. Tech was able to keep both these coaches for long periods of time (termed in today’s coaching world). Also, recall during Spikes era we played big name programs, like Penn State in Happy Valley (and we almost won). I believe Tech has been and is on the right track in all sports and our AD, administration, coaches and players deserve our thanks.

Ol’ betaraider’s gettin’ paid by somebody, fer’ shur!! Any hoot……..Mike Leach pretty well knows what he’s doing, with fewer resources than about two, possibly three other Coaches in the B12, and probably goofed that one call. IT DARN WELL MUST HAVE BEEN THE WEATHER, ‘ER SUMTHIN’, what with UH driving those 95 yds.! THAT WAS SCARY! I frankly was surprised with Ruffin’s D. Even considering the overall conditions at Robertson Stadium, THAT WAS SCARY! AND…..we all realized it was gonna’ be “capped” w/ a Keenum run up the middle. Things’ll get better…….soon!! GO TECH!

Cal was ranked number 4 at the time of the Holiday Bowl if I remember correctly. That was a great game. Only thing is that game was very reminecent of the Cotton Bowl last year. I was at both games. We yelled OVER RATED at the Holiday Bowl, and Ole Miss yelled the same at the Cotton Bowl. What goes around comes around. I think Tech will be just fine. I figure Tech will go 10 – 3 this year winning the Holiday Bowl against USC while yelling OVER RATED.
Wreck em Tech

this negative bs needs to quit. leach was right, the player was wrong. crabtree is an idiot and the red raiders will continue on being a very good team. potts is awesome and the team is a winner.

I would like Tech to go 11-2. It is possible, but not probable. A big reason is the quarterback. In 4 games, he has not improved. He was throwing off his back foot in the first game and is still doing it. He threw it straight to a Texas player who caught it when we had a chance to tie the game. He threw it straight to a Houston back who dropped it. The only three and out at Texas was when he had a wide open receiver on third down and threw behind him. He has consistently thrown behind receivers. I really want him to be great, but I am not sure he is capable. We have had 5th year seniors get to start only one year. They had to mature very fast. If Potts does not mature very fast, the Prophet may be right and we could end up 6-6. New Mexico will be a good game for Potts to get his accuracy and decision making under control. Go Red Raiders

I was as disappointed as most everybody was about the Houston game. I did not like some of the play calling and using too many time-outs, etc. But the game is history. When we as fans are used to Tech’s winning ways the last few seasons we start finger-pointing at this and that to help cure our frustration. I like Leach and our team. There may be some kinks to be worked out, but so be it. Mike Leach has done more for TTU’s football program than any coach has in history. ALL good coaches make mistakes. I have heard Bobby Bowden at FSU talk about mistakes he has made in numerous games that cost him the game, but that is just coaching football. WHATEVER is going on with this team, we cannot change it. Just the coaches and the players can do that. I would love to see Tech go 12 and 0 every year, but for now it is not going to be. It is good that we can speak our opinions and some I agree with, but for now we need to move on and give Leach and the team all of our support. I well remember the days of J.T. King, Steve Sloan, Jerry Moore and especially the one year tenure of David Mc Williams. Folks, it could be a lot worse. Who knows. We have 8 games left. Maybe 10 and 2 ? Stranger things have happened.

All of you so called Tech “fans” that are complaining about Leach just go ahead and jump ship right now and go cheer for ut or one of the other currently undefeated teams. I’m sure that they’ll welcome you fair-weather fans with open arms and probably give you a big foam hand #1 to wear. I was there in the stands during the Jerry Moore days and suffered through the 1-9-1 season. I was there setting in a stadium that routinely was only half full. The only time we had any kind of crowd was for the ut or a&m game and that was for just the second and third quarters. “Crowds” use to come to the football game just to determine what party they were going to that night. I was there during the early years of Spike Dikes and hoping our defense could score a touchdown because I had little or no hope that our offense could. Sure Leach makes mistakes, but he has put a quality product on the field. I guess I need to remind you whiners that Tech is the ONLY Big 12 School to go to a bowl game every year that the Big 12 has been in existence. A few years ago, we would have never thought that we even had a chance to beat a top 20 team and now some “fans” think we’re a failure because we don’t. So stop your whining and get your guns up, WRECK’EM TEXAS TECH AND THE VICTORY BELLS WILL RING OUT!!!!!!!!!

This group is different. Their identity is still being formed. I don’t know how anyone can still mention Jerry Moore (excuse me I need to throw up) or this past week against Houston (I need to throw up again). We are a team that is going to shock some people during the remainder of this season. I can’t wait to see the looks on the faces of those bleeping bleeps of bleepches Sooners after we kick the living bleep out of their arrogant mother -bleeping bleepses . Bleep Sam Bradford! I’m sick of hearing all about UT at Norman. We are going to pay those people back! Mark my words! Coach Leach is the best possible coach we could ever ask for and he will show everyone with the games we have left to play.

I like the way you speak. You speak the way that only few college football fans are these days. Last year was an UNBELIEVABLE year!! I mean as a Tech fan I was absolutely blown away at the sucess that we had. I am a Texas Tech fan, Win or LOSE. It is sad to see that so many people here are not. How do you say….. I guess BANDWAGON Fans. What our Bandwagon fans fail to see is that this is not the team we had last year. This is a completely different team. We are a much younger team, which in the coming years will be a Top 10 team. We are putting Sophmores and Freshmen out on that field every week and competing. I mean really competing with some very good schools. For that I have reason to be excited, not only for this year but for next year and the coming years. Mike Leach is the BEST coach in the Big 12. Sorry if you don’t believe it but in my opinion he is. He was going for the game when he gambled on 4th and goal. Hey you know what, we didn’t make it, and I was upset just like everybody else, but it was a good call and I would have done the same thing. All I have to say is REAL TECH FANS just hang in there. We will weather the storm. We have 2-losses to 2 Top 25 Teams on THE ROAD. Could be alot worse. NOW: Get ready for some Red Raider Football that we are all accustomed to starting this weekend with New Mexico!!
Wreck ‘Em Tech…….. Scarlet and Black FOREVER!!!!

To all the Potts haters,
To my knowledge every Leach QB has lost in his first year to a lesser opponent, making bad decisions and having an “off” night. Just an observation.
(Report comment)
Wow, didn’t realize we had so many bandwaggoners on here so quick to fire our coach and bench our quarterback. There have been some setbacks but its amazing how it seems that all we are pointing out are the bad things and never any of the good things we have done. All this talk about our defense and how pitiful they are, but they have just gone out and held two top 10 scoring offenses to about 20 pts below their avg and kept us in both games this year when the offense made costly mistakes in our own territory. I see a mostly young group, especially the secondary, who for the most part has played with every bit of heart we would expect from our Red Raiders and have been put in some very tough situations only to rise up and stop the opposition cold or hold them to field goals time after time. I’m as disappointed with the offensive miscues as anyone but has it escaped everyone that Taylor Potts just played his first two road starts of his career against pretty good foes and not cupcakes! That might have a little bit to do with him having one heck of a learning curve and coming out of both games with much to learn but alot to be proud of. I can’t believe in a weeks time we would be calling for his head after such a gutsy performance against Texas where I’ve seen our vetaran QB’s have quite a bit less resolve. Even with all of our offensive woes we have actually played pretty good offense and just need to get a little more consistentcy to make things even out! There is a fine line between constructive criticism and support and just a bunch of ridiculous comments that make people look like jerks! And lastly all the “why’s he doin that” and “what’s he thinkin” about our coach and his decision making! He made a mistake in the last game and it probably did cost us the game, but overall I think Coach Leach has made some pretty good decisions and put our program in a better position to be top notch than any other coach in our history and for any true Red Raider its exciting to see how much better we continue to get year after year. Has anyone noticed that these ain’t the same Red Raider athletes that we used to run out there in the “Air Raid” attack. I guess that the Lubbock scenery has somehow gotten better looking than say any of those schools down in Florida so that’s why those top recruits are choosing us over them? And for the record, the onside kick at Texas was a damn good, gutsy call that we almost pulled off and if so would have had Texas on their heels. Texas had started a scoring frenzy that we were behind in and he was trying to get us even. He showed confidence in our offense and defense with that move and it didn’t cost us the game as so many have been shouting! Why is a call like that made by Mack Brown or Bob Stoops called genius but if Coach Leach does it then he’s called a crazy moron? I usually read these posts and never have responded, but some of these posts struck me to my Red Raider core! All I have to say is that if you want to try to bandwagon us when were good and shove us in the mud the minute things aren’t going perfect then go root for someone else in the country and get off our freakin ship! WRECK’EM TECH 4 LIFE!!!

Rid the world of pirates !!!!

(Report comment)
The people who are posting that Leach should leave are morons. He’s the reason we’re relevant now. His offensive schemes are why we are getting players who could have gone to Florida. Either you folks are too young to remember the mediocre Spike Dykes era and the “No More Moore” debacle, or you are one of those old farts who talks about the “good ol’ days” with the “good ol boy” network of coaches who would get us to 6-5 with a trip to the Independence bowl.
Wake up. Leach is the best thing that has happened to Tech athletics. He’ll make mistakes, but any coach does. Stop complaining you old hags.
