Men’s basketball team gets first commitment, 2010

Texas Tech basketball got its first verbal commitment of the 2010 recruiting class on Friday, when Houston-area shooting guard Jamel Outler decided to play for the Red Raiders.

Recruiting Web site Rivals.com said Outler, a 6-foot-2 senior, recieved scholarship offers from 10 schools including Northwestern, TCU, Texas A&M and USC before choosing Tech. Outler plays for Bellaire high school and the Houston Select AAU team.

Recruiting Web site Scout.com ranks Outler as a two-star recruit.
