Receiver, CB likely out

Texas Tech inside receiver Tramain Swindall wasn’t on the dress roster released Thursday for the Red Raiders’ game Saturday against North Dakota, an indication he’s benched for the first game.

Teams don’t have a limit on how many they can suit up for home games. For home games, though, Tech usually suits up 70 players to get ready for working within the Big 12 Conference’s 70-man travel roster limit when league road games begin.

Swindall, expected to be a starter during the spring and summer, fell to third team on the depth chart behind Adam James and Cornelius Douglas at “H” inside receiver.

Tech coach Mike Leach said there’s nothing more than meets the eye regarding Swindall’s fallen stature.

“Just no production,” Leach said. “Just effort and production.”

Cornerback Brent Nickerson, who has battled an injury for the past week, appears unlikely to play in the opener. He’s also not on the dress roster.

Tech does not disclose information on the nature or severity of injuries.

Visitors’ paycheck

North Dakota will receive a $350,000 guarantee to play in Lubbock this weekend, according to Bobby Gleason, Tech’s deputy athletic director and chief financial officer.
