Mercy rule completes Tigers’ sweep of Tech
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The final game of the series played out like the first two for Texas Tech.
Pitching faltered, hitting didn’t come up with enough and the Red Raiders suffered their first series sweep of the season, losing 15-2 at Missouri.
The game was stopped in the seventh inning due to the Big 12 Conference mercy rule on getaway day.
Tech (20-27, 9-12) was outscored, 42-14, by the Tigers, who scored 18 runs in the series opener.
Nate Karns started on the mound but only lasted an inning. He allowed four runs on three hits and two walks.
Chad Bettis came on in the second for his first outing of the week. He pitched 41/3 innings and gave up 11 runs on 11 hits and five walks. He may have been left in because it was his first outing of the week, Tech now has eight off days and the Red Raiders used five pitchers on Friday and three more on Saturday. The 11 runs is the most Bettis has allowed in a game in his career.
While Missouri was pounding Tech pitching, the Red Raiders’ hitters weren’t effective against Tigers starter Nick Tepesch, who pitched a complete game.
Tech scored first on an RBI single from Scott LeJeune, but the Tigers answered in the bottom of the first with three runs. The Red Raiders’ other run came in the fifth when Joey Kenworthy delivered an RBI single that scored Willie Rueda.
Kenworthy finished with three of Tech’s nine hits, while Michael Reed also contributed a double and a triple.
Tech won’t play again until May 6 at Dallas Baptist.

Way to go!!! Great games, and we see how the team has “grown” and matured during the season. Well, at least they have all summer to work on improving. Slowly but surely, Tech will climb back among the elite. It sure as heck wasn’t this year.

Great effort. This team is still pathetic on the road. Is football the only sport we can compete in? How ’bout that Lady Raider golf team? 11th place on their home course. Pitiful.

What do you expect, we have a Athletic Director who is TERRIBLE, you wonder why we have at the bottom of every sport we compete in, go straight to the top.

I am not sure how the idiot Athletic Director is responsible for the teams’ efforts or the teams’ coachs’ efforts other than he hired them. The coaches are the ones who are not getting the job done. Come on, Iowa St., Kansas St., et al. are beating us too. This is not just about who is getting the most raw talent–this is about inept coaching and players not living up to their potential.

Help is on the way! The SW Little Leaguers from a couple of years back are coming!! About 4 years or so from now, they will be ready for college. Then off they go to Waco, CS, Austin, and Houston. Tech will get the juco transfers and LCU no- wants and the baseball team will look just like it does now; 20-27

Why wait, the Coronado Lady Mustangs have 2 girls who throw some real flame…TTU needs to stop awarding scholarships as favors….Ya, I said it, the same with the Basketball team. Other than football and track and field, the rest of the athletic teams are a joke,,,a BIG JOKE>

Why does the Tech baseball team also have a complete breakdown when they go to Missouri? Weren’t they run-ruled last time they went to Columbia?

Cmon people open your eyes, This atheletic department is a good ol boy system. Scholarships are constantly going to players that have no business in the big 12. At that comes from the mentality at the top
