COLLEGE STATION – Baylor coach Kim Mulkey struggled with what to do on an inbounds play with 5 seconds left against Texas A&M.

Looks as if she made the right decision.

Danielle Wilson’s three-point play with 4.8 seconds left gave No. 5 Baylor its 10th straight win, a victory over No. 9 Texas A&M.

Wilson, who finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds, got the ball in the lane and made the layup despite being fouled by Danielle Gant. She then sank the free throw to secure the win.

“Went back and forth and we finally settled on it,” Mulkey said of the timeout conversation. “We just thought we could score on that one … all the kid had to do was catch and finish.”

Kelli Griffin missed a jumper with 6 seconds left and the ball sailed out of bounds. Texas A&M touched it last, giving Baylor (16-1, 4-0) one more chance.

“Anytime you can go on the road and steal one, it’s a good feeling,” Mulkey said.

Wilson said: “That’s the biggest shot in my collegiate career.”

Takia Starks tried a desperation shot from just past half court at the buzzer, but it fell short.

Morghan Medlock scored a season-high 17 and Jessica Morrow added 15 for the Lady Bears, who got the win despite tying a season high with 20 turnovers.

“We were an ugly basketball team in that first part,” Mulkey said. “We had some really boneheaded backcourt violations, but we corrected it. We really improved in the second half.”

Gant made one of two free throws with about 30 seconds left to tie it at 61-all.

Baylor had a 61-58 lead after a pair of free throws by Melissa Jones with 1:40 remaining. A layup by Starks, who finished with 18 points, seconds later closed the gap to a point.

The loss breaks a 13-game home winning streak for Texas A&M (14-3, 2-2), which was led by a career-high 19 points by Tanisha Smith.

“I felt the game was going to go right down to the wire because neither one of us is that much better than the other,” Texas A&M coach Gary Blair said. “(But) this is our home court. We’ve got to protect it.”
