Texas HS football hall selects former Tech AD

Former Texas Tech athletic director T. Jones and former Andrews and Tech running back Shaud Williams will be inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame on May 2 in Waco. The induction banquet that day is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Baylor’s Ferrell Center.
Jones, Tech’s AD from 1985-93, starred in high school at Childress. Williams rushed for 7,710 yards and scored 87 touchdowns in high school.He played one season at Tech before transferring to Alabama, where he finished his college career.
Hall electors chose one player from each decade: Jones, pre-1950; Johnny Roland from Corpus Christi Miller, 1950s; Bob Goodrich from Dallas Woodrow Wilson, 1960s; Bubba Bean from Kirbyville, 1970s; Kennet Davis from Temple, 1980s; and Williams, 1990s. Also elected as this year’s coach honoree is the late Pat Shannon from San Antonio Jefferson. Elected in the category of special contributor to Texas High School football is Dr. Newt Hasson, a team doctor.
