Austin High receiver not committed to Tech

By Don Williams | AVALANCHE-JOURNAL
Austin High School wide receiver Emory Blake acknowledged Wednesday that he’s still considering Texas Tech but no longer considers himself committed to the Red Raiders.

“It’s between Tech and Colorado,” Blake said. “It’s really 50-50 right now. I’m really having a tough time with my decision. I’m staying up at night thinking about it, so it’s tough.”

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Blake made a non-binding oral commitment to Tech after visiting on the weekend of the Red Raiders’ 39-33 upset of No. 1 Texas.

“Even when I committed, I was thinking which school was better for me – if CU was better for me or if Tech was better for me,” he said. “I think (the Buffaloes) have always been in the back of my mind.”

Blake is considered one of the state’s top wide receiver prospects. During his senior season of 2008, he caught 64 passes for 936 yards and nine touchdowns. Used by his team as an all-purpose player, he also rushed 74 times for 643 yards and five TDs and threw a touchdown pass.

He’s a son of former NFL quarterback Jeff Blake.

He said he won’t make a firm decision until after he has in-home visits with both teams’ head coaches.

I certainly hope this outstanding recruit decides to attend Texas Tech. I feel that with him and the returning receivers, we have a chance to negate any side effects of the loss of Crabs. Blake gives us a bunch of options on the field and could open up the offense even more with his athletic abilities.

    Would that be with Leach?

I wonder if 4 star WR Eric Ward de-committing from Oklahoma and enrolling early at Tech had anything to do with his decision???

Maybe Blake was scared of a little competition and wanted to look at other schools where he could be the “star”???

I agree that it would be great to see Ward and Blake lining up together and catching passes from Potts the next 2 years. It really depends if Blake wants to be a part of a TEAM, or a great individual player. Hope he comes to Tech.

It is good that Blake take the time to make the best decision he can.

I hope he comes to TTU, there are many advantages for him to do so. There are pluses at the other school as well.

Air Raid receivers who can play enjoy a lot of good football.

Leach will be here longer than Dan Hawkins will be in CO. He is out after this season. On the other hand, Colorado is a much prettier place to live.

But how many times will his family and friends get to watch him play in person if he is in Colorado? In 4 years, he would be playing at Tech, A&M, Baylor, and UT once each. If he were at Tech, he would be playing close to home many more times. Not sure how much that plays into the picture for this young man, but I sure hope he becomes a Red Raider! GO TECH!

The attention Crabtree has put on Texas Tech will be great for any receiver that thinks they are the best. If you have what it takes come and help build a great receiver dynasty. Crabtree will be NFL HoF and that light will shine on Texas Tech for years to come. Mike Leach can build catching skills better than anyone, our receivers develop their hands like no other in the country

Hope the recruits start coming our way with Leach staying, but how does OU finish 1st in the BCS and Florida second? Standings updated today. Tech finished 7th in the BCS ahead of Penn State. Awesome Job Tech! What is it that prevents Tech from more 4 star or possibly a couple five star recruits, is it the recruiting, the location, rumors or what? I am afraid the largest part of that equation is the annual rumors.

Great post Gus, we all have seen greatly recruited recievers go to big name schools and because of the # of quality players that that school has they recieve little playing time and or 3 or 4 passes a game, very little oppurtunity to increase their skills. While we have also seen recruits not sought after by (the big ones) come to MIke Leach’s training ground and develop great hands and skills as a receiver. What would happen if the recruits that thought they were the top echelon would come to Mike Leach’s academy and not only have their own great natural athletic ability, but the extra skills and discipline that would cause recievers to show off in NFL.

YEAH RUMORS That comes from the likes of Mack Brown. He still puts out that old point that the wind blows in Lubbock. If we all look back on the last three seasons we have had beautiful weather for our games.Doesn’t the whinner(BROWN) realise that it’s the big 12 now.Two months out of the season can be played in wind and snow up in Kansas,Mo and Neb.And If you have been to a Texas game latley you don’t dare walk down 6th street without being harrassed or feared to be mugged.Yeah Lubbock is no EDEN but when you walk around the campus it’s really a beautiful sight. One point Tech coaches need to make is you are here for education, and brought here to play football or what ever sport. And now they can prove that Lubbock and Tech can do allot for a persons education and career.Yes Colorado is beautiful but it might not be beautiful once you get there.

If he is smart he comes here. Who wouldn’t want to play reciever here? That is the showcase position at Tech. 10-15 balls thrown your way every game!

Let’s see – a school who’s coach’s son is the qb, which coach can’t settle on the qb, or plays games with the kids to “motivate” his own kid to play better, or the nation’s leaading passing game . . . hmmmm “tough” decision, as long as you have the mastermind of that attack still as head coach, for the long term. FIRE MYERS – NOW.
