Harrell named as finalist for Maxwell, O’Brien
By Don Williams | AVALANCHE-JOURNAL
Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell on Monday was named one of three finalists for the Maxwell Award, which goes to college football’s best all-around player.
Harrell’s teammate, Mike Crabtree, with whom he’s hooked up on 40 career touchdown passes, moved a step closer to winning his second straight Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s top receiver. Crabtree, Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant and Missouri’s Jeremy Maclin – all sophomores – make up an all-Big 12 Conference group of three finalists for the Biletnikoff.
Crabtree won it last year, after he caught 134 passes for 1,962 yards and 22 touchdowns. This season, he has 84 catches for 1,072 yards and 18 TDs.
Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and Florida quarterback Tim Tebow join Harrell on the finalists list for the Maxwell Award. Tebow won the Maxwell last year as well as the Heisman Trophy.
Harrell, Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford and Texas’ Colt McCoy are the finalists for the Davey O’Brien Award, which is presented to the nation’s best quarterback.
The winners will be announced during ESPN’s annual college football awards show, which is televised live from Orlando, Fla., at 6:30 p.m. CST on Dec. 11.

What a super-humble guy Graham is. I have long been a Tech fan, so upon running into him while doing some shopping, I was compelled to walk up to him and thank him for the incredible job he has done. He smiled, thanked me and called me “ma’am” which was funny because I am not too much older than him! But it is important to remember that he is a kid! As quarterback, he takes a lot of criticism and fault. I can’t imagine what he or any of the other guys are feeling after that loss at OU. If you see these guys, pat them on the back. They have had an OUTSTANDING year and they need to know we are behind them! I am damn proud to be a Red Raider!

Well said Raidergirl29. Please vote for Graham. Karl posted the website. The Texas fans are voting like crazy. You can vote once a day. Also go to coachoftheyear.com and vote for Coach Leach for coach of the year. You can also vote once of day. They are both very deserving!!!

I agree completely about Harrell. Watching him mature as a QB and a person over the last 3 years has been very encouraging. He is his own man, but it helped to be in Leach’s system and under his guidance. And, vice versa for Coach Leach — a breath of fresh air in the coaching profession, IMHO.

Harrell got shafted in the OU game for the Heisman and alot of the votes for these awards.
He deserves one of them at least.
