Red Raiders start to answer questions in opener vs. EWU

There’s not a lot of new in the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
On the other hand, given a team with seemingly ample talent and so little turnover, the intrigue factor is at or near an all-time high.

20 games, 7 surgeries after his last action, Batch ready to run

New 40-second clock most visible of rules changes

New to the college game this season will be a 40-second play clock: As soon as one play ends, the offense has 40 seconds to snap the ball on the next play.

Five Keys To Success

1. Healthy WRs
2. They all count
3. Build a better pass rush
4. Clutch kicks
5. Keep it clean

College fantasy football: Players like it, NCAA doesn’t

In order to protect the amateur status of its student-athletes, the NCAA has clear-cut rules about using college players’ names and likenesses for commercial purposes.

Those rules are being broken by one of the world’s largest media conglomerates, and the NCAA might not be able to do much about it.

Ruffed up

It could be a common sight this season. Texas Tech players pick themselves up after one play, then turn to face the sideline to check their assignment for the next play. There, Ruffin McNeill or one of his assistants will relay signals to the players, saving them the time of huddling.

For your consideration…

Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell might put up Heisman Trophy-worthy statistics, but he knows the Red Raiders will have to win for him — or receiver Mike Crabtree — to receive serious consideration. (Staci Gray - Avalanche-Journal)

With Tech pushing the Heisman candidacies of both Harrell and Crabtree, it’s possible the two players could take potential votes away from each other. But Cook said it’s more likely that they’ll boost each other’s chances, especially if they duplicate last year’s performances and lead the Red Raiders to the type of season they’re expecting.

One magical season can lead to sustained success

Tech stands on that precipice now, which is why it’s vitally important that the Red Raiders take advantage of what’s available to them this season. Do something out of the ordinary and a new level of talent will gladly come to Lubbock; you can count it.

Big year won’t necessarily put program among elite

The offense figures to be outstanding once again, and the defense is finally decent.

If both units hold up their end of the bargain — and Texas Tech gets a little luck along the way — the Red Raiders could be in for the most memorable football season they’ve ever had.

No time like the present

“We’ve never really gotten this much respect before a season. It’s something that we’ve always felt like we deserved. But it’s something that you have to prove and you have to earn. People don’t realize that either.’’ . . . Eric Morris, Tech receiver and Shallowater native
