Abilene’s Ford changes mind, picks Tech
Texas Tech scored a key football recruiting coup Thursday, getting a West Texas standout who had committed elsewhere in the Big 12 Conference South Division to say he’d stay closer to home.
Abilene Cooper safety Will Ford, a member of the first-team defense on Texas Football magazine’s preseason high school Super Team, said he has pledged [...]
Aaron Fisher, WR and Dion Chidozie, LB
Dion Chidozie hasn’t been to Lubbock, and later this month is the first time he’ll visit the Texas Tech campus. But he didn’t need to see either to act on the appeal of Big 12 Conference football.
Chidozie, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound outside linebacker from Dallas Bishop Lynch, made an oral commitment to the Red Raiders on [...]
Kyle Clark, OL
Tech picked up an oral commitment from Denton Guyer offensive lineman Kyle Clark, who visited campus for the third time in six months over the weekend for the Red-Black Game. Clark said he’s 6-foot-5 and weighs 278 pounds.
“My parents got to see the academic side and we got more tours of the stadium,” Clark said. [...]
Tech football to play Houston
The days of the Southwest Conference will be relived as Texas Tech has agreed to a two-year football contract to play Houston.
The deal, which is expected to be announced today according to a Tech official, calls for the Red Raiders to play in Houston on Sept. 26, 2009. The Cougars will then play in Lubbock on Sept. 25, 2010.
The Red Raiders and Cougars have met 28 times, the last in 1995 – the final year of the SWC – when Tech defeated Houston, 38-26, in the Astrodome. The Cougars hold a 17-10-1 advantage over the Red Raiders in a series that began in 1951.
Since joining the Big 12 Conference, the Red Raiders have kept ties with some of their old SWC foes. Tech played Rice and SMU last season, and the Mustangs will be in Lubbock this season on Sept. 13. The Red Raiders have played Rice and SMU 46 times apiece.
The Red Raiders also have played TCU regularly, but haven’t played Arkansas since 1991.
Spencer completes Tech baseball staff with old friend Gustafson
A relationship that began more than a decade ago will manifest itself in the Texas Tech baseball program.
